Favorite car movie?

I can guarantee this idea has come up before, but let me do it anyway!
:huit:

What is your favorite movie that you either like the story AND the cars, or you just like BECAUSE OF the cars present?

1) It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
2) Vertigo
3) Ocean's Eleven (1960)
4) War of the Worlds (1953)
5) Asphalt Jungle or any number of crime dramas of the 1945-1954 era (Film noir)

Oh my gosh I love that movie so much!! I can't tell you how many times I've watched it, it is so amazing! My favorite part is the car chase near the end between the two Plymouth yellow taxis and the black Dodge, oh it's the best in the world... :bave:
In fact I'm going to go search for it on Youtube right now!

Anyway, one movie I like for cars is the Matrix Reloaded. I love the Caprice and Impala police cars and of course the Cadillac CTS used in the chase  I also like how every single car in the freeway chase is a GM product, except for one Dodge Stratus and two Ford Tauruses. It makes for a very interesting sequence.

And as I've said before the X-files is a great TV series for cars of all ages and types, and there's even a few good car chases in some episodes. It's also a must watch series if you like loads of fleet Crown Victorias, which I know I do :bave:

Taxiguy, I'm dying to know, which era you like best for taxi's, the Plymouth/De Soto of 1933 to 1975 or the Fords of 1955 to present? Okay, Chevrolet is in there some place, maybe 1920 to present. There were a few Studebakers in the fifties as well.

If you have a photo sharing account, I will just email you those photos. Look for a PM soon. :boggled:

Oh, this is very hard choice, I have often thought about it and I just can't decide

Well, the only taxis from the 1950s that I like are the 58-59ish Plymouth/Dodge, as the late-50s Chrysler products I simply love  I have always thought of them as much better looking cars than the Chevy and Ford, taxi or otherwise. I despise pretty much every car from the 1960s, with the exception of some 68 and 69 models of Chrysler and GM. Now the 70s on the other hand, that's a good decade for taxis :sol: So much variety and each of the big three had a model (sometimes two) to offer, not to mention the cars were the biggest and most stylish they would ever get (and will ever be). I would have to say my 70s taxi of choice would be a 1975 Ford LTD, although the Bel Air and Monaco of the same year are wonderful too. I also like the mid-70s Furys and Coronet midsizes, which were commonly used in NYC, along with the LTD. The 80s, well of course I love all taxis of that decade, Caprice, LTD Crown Vic, Diplomat, but compared to the 70s and 90s it was nothing special so I will skip that decade. Now I get to another great decade, the 90s! Even though by then there were pretty much only two choices, Caprice and Crown Victoria, the sheer beauty of these two cars make up for the fact that there was little variety  I guess I'd have to say that no taxi beats either the 1992 Caprice or the 1995 Crown Vic, in NYC livery of course. Although I think the 75 LTD might be tied with those two, as that really was a great taxi

Heh heh, sorry for the extremely long response by the way. I guess when I start talking about taxis I just can't stop!

No offense taken, I could be the first member to hijack his own topic!

I have a book I grew up with called "Wings and Wheels;" let me get it out and find the publisher's details.

Wings and Wheels, Chapin, Cynthia; Community Helpers Series; Jene Barr, Educational Consultant; Pictures by Kevin Royt; Albert Whitman anc Company, Chicago, Ill. (C)1967; Library of Congress Catalog Card 67-17415; Published simultaneously in Canada by George J. McLeod, Ltd., Toronto, Ont.,
Canada; Printed in USA.

http://www.aziomedia.com/si/30151.html

This book was the key to my fascination with transportation and public policies on the subject.

The book is a short illustrated story about a typical day and night in Your Town or Anytown, USA (whichever you prefer), and includes a pictorial dictionary of all modes of transportation including yours truly, but the taxicab image is very stylized and can only be closest to a 1966 Dodge Coronet (Boxy with single headlights).

I can send scans of the pages with the taxi pictures.

I think my favourite/favorite movies would be as follows:
1) Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) What as good chase scene, all chase scenes are compared to this.
2) The Italian Job (1969) What more could you love than three Minis chasing down stairs?
3) The Blues Brothers (1980) Not only a fell good musical, but super cool chase scenes. I first saw the chases when I was 3 or 4!
4) Back to the Future triology (1985, 1989, 1990) Good story line, cool car action and time travel. A+ in my books.
5) Smokey and the Bandit triology (1977, 1980, 1983) Cool car action, cool truck stunts, chrases and a fell good story line.

Amongst my favourite movies, those where it is mostly due to the cars are Mad Max and Ronin.
There is also Back to the Future and Lethal Weapon series, but there the cars have less importance.

I have a book I grew up with called "Wings and Wheels;"

I have a book like that too! Except it's more about actual cars and less about transportation. It's called "The Encyclopedia of American Cars" http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-American-Editors-Consumer-Guide/dp/1412713544

It's a great book, I highly suggest that you buy it, in fact I think you would appriciate it even more than I do! It has listings and photos of all American cars from 1933-2006, with tons of info, production figures, original prices, and even the history and polictics having to do with specific makes and models. A must have for any car lover.

Sadly, there are no Japanese cars in the book, which is very sad for me as Toyotas and Hondas are the love of my life  I guess they are not considered "American" enough (even though the top 5 best selling cars in the US are Japanese, and each one of them is designed and built on US soil by Americans)

Gone in 60 Seconds hands down. Angeline Jolie looking hot. Nicholas Cage doing his thing. 50 top end cars including a Jaguar XJ220 and a 1967 Shelby GT500. There's just no movie better in my mind.

I loved 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World' when I first saw it. There was even an old Fiat in it! but the best bit was when that guy drove his convertable into the river!

My movies would be:
1. Christine; set in the time when you still saw fifties cars that were 20 years old.
2. Gone in 60 Seconds (1974); Large amounts of American cars with some Europeans too.
3. Mad Max; Many Aussie Muscle cars with some yanks on the side too.
Only three here, but I have more favourites too!
