Not the only code / model name that one can find only in the IMCDb. Collateral damage of repeated unchecked inner sourcing made by some contributors?

All of these codes (L314, L359 etc) only seem to have been added to Wikipedia very recently so who knows what's been on there before...

I'm as guilty as anyone on replicating this one. From checking it seems L359 is right for the Freelander 2 as even URLs on the Land-Rover site use it. A link giving more info here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic88296.html so L50 for the second Discovery is also doubtful.

But I'm not sure where L314 comes in, I have a feeling it was a codename made later (it fits too well with codes like L319, L320 from much later under Ford ownership) rather than the original/correct one (which seems to be CB40). I'm also suspicious of L318 being given to the Disco II as I found a book reference to that being the codename for the 2003-05 model facelift with no link to the 1999 model ones. With that in mind, L314 might be for the 2004 facelift Freelander.

This is where this all started: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=130183 so I'm wondering where the normally reliable Alexander got them from. Part of the problem will be some of these will be Rover codenames (things like CB40), some will be BMW codenames (Lxx) and others will be Ford (they seemed to apply the L3xx ones) codenames.

Another error is that we have quite a few 2006 Freelander 2s listed but the car didn't officially launch until December 2006 so should be listed as 2007 (maybe aside from the two or three pre-production VX56 ones).

Not that massive, concerning about 40 vehicles but still, if you can do it, antp

This:

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=1959&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=Citro%EBn&modelMatch=2&model=Type+H&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on- &mk=&origin=&madein=&madefor=&role=

is the series of "Citroën tôlés" called "Type H" on the db while they should be named "Type HY", because they have been identified as post-1958 (end of 1958: no more Type H / beginning of 1959: new Type HY).

Could you replace, in the model box, "Type H" by "Type HY"?

I'd forgot about the miscoded Land-Rovers.

Can Freelander 2 [L315] be changed to [L359] please?

Less sure what is to be done with Freelander [L22] and Discovery [L50]. Do we just follow wiki and use [L314] and [L318]? Or go to listing them as codeless until we can find a proper answer (I'm sceptical about them).

Also, there's an issue with the made in France tags on [NCP10] Yarises: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=887437

Thanks in advance.

L315->L359 done
I don't really know what to do with others.

For the Yaris, we should remove the French flag on pre-2001 models then?

Yes, it seems even to be wrong for some later ones:
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=444686 (though maybe that one was built a long time before being registered)

The story I know (not sure it is right) is that they built the factory in France to be able to sell there the Yaris without importation limits (quotas), but for other EU countries they may have imported them from Japan if the factory in France could not produce enough for the whole continent.

[...] they built the factory in France to be able to sell there the Yaris without importation limits (quotas)[...]

I can't find more precise informations, but the European quotas for Japanese cars were said to disappear at least one year before the start of the French production of the Yaris.

As you say in the first linked page, Sandie, French production started in 2001 only. The TMMC corporate site says more precisely January 2001 (fr - See the bottom of the page), which means indeed that none of these 124 1999-2000 models should have the Made in France flag.

Acura TSX - Most of the early versions all have "Made in USA" tags. They were all made in Japan. I think someone was confusing it with the TL, which was made in Ohio (except the first generation).

Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Until know, the fourth generations on the site have as "chassis codes" 1G, 2G, 3G & 4G. This is commonly used in the USA (Wikipedia article, tuners' forums) but it's not official at all. It just means "first generation", "second generation", and so on.

The real codes are different. Of course, as usual with Mitsubishi, every engine version has its own code, so we use a "generic" code for the range when the exact version can't be identified. Here are the ones for the Eclipse.

- first generation : D20
- second generation : D30
- third generation : D50
- fourth generation : DK

I've taken the liberty of trying this on a few Euro-spec/Japan-spec models for which I know the exact codes, like this :

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=571308
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=636406

For the moment, the "Mk" field shows "Series I/II/III/IV". Is it possible to rename these as 1G/2G/3G/4G, so we'd have a continuity with the (US-centric) popular way of calling these cars ?

Indeed we could combine that by re-using the Mk field for the "G" number.
I'll fix that

Maybe it's time to take a look at the Toyota Highlander on the site: some are listed as model origin Japan and others as USA, some have the built in USA tag... Maybe they should be adjusted in some way. Wikipedia is not clear (how strange), but apparently origin USA is not right because it was available also in Japan as Kluger. Always according to Wiki, the production in USA (Ohio) begun in 2009, but I don't know if the ones sold in USA since 2009 are all made there or only partially and the other half imported from Japan. Night cub  would you like to investigate?

Looks like the Highlander was built in Japan through the 2009 model year for the regular model, a mix of Japan and US built ones for model year 2010, and all USA (Indiana; not Ohio, that's Honda) after that. The Hybrids continued to be built in Japan until the 2013 model year, for my 2014+ they were made in Indiana.

As far as Origin, looks like the latest model (2014+, XU50) was designed in the US, and is no longer made in Japan.

Yes, there are just a few so I've edited them manually: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-Toyota_model-XU50.html
On the Hybrid http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-Toyota_model-Highlander+Hybrid.html should be removed on all the "built in US tag" since according to Night cub, they were built in USA only since 2014
