I prefer it the way it was. There are no such special characters displayed in the headers over at IMDb so I don't see the interest in having it here. The special characters should be reserved for the AKAs in my opinion.

The problem of old sites is that when you change any single thing people complain
As I said I'll add an option to have the international title by default when only one can be displayed.
When the international title is visible, if two titles can be displayed there is no real reason to have the transliterated version over the original one in the title.
It is not because IMDb does it that way that we especially have to do it too.

I've tried to explain it in a different way in my previous comment, but that's my same thought too. I just prefer having the title the way it's spelled just like IMDB does and put everything else in the alternative titles section. And I don't really like those film origin flags just next to the main title too to be honest as sometimes it's quite an arguable topic - that info can be found when opening the IMDB page though.

'Less is better' - I know I'm a bit old fashioned but that's why I find IMCDB the 'last survivor' and just a great place to be. Hope I'm not going to change my mind now.

I can remove the movie flags if that's a feature that we don't want to use. I thought it was nice.

I have yet to chime in on this topic but for what it’s worth here is my opinion on the matter. I do not like how we’re having non-Latin alphabet titles now. I believe the best solution would’ve been to add non-Latin alphabet to the Aka section. Leaving the Latin alphabet title as the main title for our movie page.

I think the movie origin can get really dicey especially for bigger movies where there multiple filming locations or possibly a director from Italy and then production in US.

Long story short main titles should stay the same and add non-latin titles in aka section.

Why nobody commented on that subject when I created this 3 weeks ago?
The only comments seemed positive about that idea (those who prefer the new system, I guess).

Anyway, I added tooltips at places where only one title is displayed, that should already help.
I fixed also some issues related to the "last completed" list (and removed that very long Japanese title, it is quite bad luck that it was added in the list just at this time).

As I said a few times, I'll add an option for those who prefer to use the international title by default, like on IMDb.
However having the transliterated title by default does not seem so useful to me.

I feel that each time I try to touch at the site there are complains.
I wonder what will happen the day the whole interface will be replaced by responsive design.
Maybe next time I decide to spend time working on the site I'll rather find something else to do

Oh wait, why the movie year is not displayed when browsering by vehicle make/model anymore? That should be a bug that came up after the last updates:

It started to appear next to each title pending approval instead, which is not really useful.

Fixed for the vehicles list.
Actually I regrouped code so all the title display is done at only one place, letting have it customizable later.

I can remove it for the pending approval list if really not useful to have the year there, but I thought it could be useful to have that kind of extra info displayed.

They're back now but in brackets, they were without them before. Are you going to shoot me if I ask to put them back with no brackets? It just looked better.

Sorry I did not check before changing, I did not notice there were differences on each place
I'll fix that later
edit: done

But now in comments list they are not between brackets. Were the brackets useful there? Or is it fine as it is now?
Previously in the comments list the year was included in the movie link, but not elsewhere on the site, it was not very coherent (as I said, different in each place).
I'd say it is fine as it is now but as it looks that any little change upsets people, I don't know

I think the only problem that this update looks unusual after 2 decades. But, after all, this is how those movies really named. For a people who don't know languages of those titles they look equally meaningless in romanized transcription as in original. Sometimes romanized titles can be even more confusing and misleading than written on their native symbols.
At least now i'll be able to clearly see on the homepage if new movie is from Thailand, Japan, Russia, Israel etc
This update was debated for years. I even started to thought it will never happened. I didn't expected that changes would go that far. But i think it's even better.

That's what I was thinking. The titles looked like gibberish before, just in Latin letters.

I do like the movie origin flags, but I would keep it optional, so there are less arguments for those titles that are collaborations between two/several countries.
---------------

One change I noticed is when searching for movies, you now get exact matches and similar matches, which is good. However, I noticed that you can no longer arrange the titles by year, which is something that I found useful.

For example, I was looking for a title called "Rage", 1966, and a long list appears. To see if it is already listed under a different original title I like to change the view to "Year".

Indeed I also added an "automatic exact+similar titles search" when searching with the box on the top right corner (before the similar search was hidden in the search page, and did not combine exact+similar search).
I'll add a link to switch to the more classic search with sort by year, indeed in some cases it can be useful. The box to change the sort order is still there when searching from the search page, just not in that "automatic" mode, but this can easily be fixed.

By main page you mean the list of all comments I suppose?
Cf Walter's comment above: https://imcdb.opencommunity.be/forum_topic-9710-87092-Site_update_unicode_support_for_movie_titles_and_vehicle_makesmodels.html#p87092
As I regrouped the "title formatting" functions scattered everywhere in the code, it may have changed the way they are displayed in some places.
Now it is more consistent between the different pages. I can change it back to "years included in movie title link" if people want, but I don't know if it is better or if it is just the habit of seeing them that way
