Still, when you apply for a Texas title (bonded or not) the car is required to be a model originally sold in the US, or have proof of USDOT compliance, which must be expensive if possible at all. They specifically ask that. He probably just lied and the local DMV office didn't know the difference.

Looks like it sold for $4550 on eBay but didn't meet reserve.

owlman, that is one reason I was agreeing with the statement about it possibly being a confiscated car. The authorities can do what they want...I have a buddy that bought a 2000 something Mexican beetle that was confiscated by the VA state police and sold at auction, even though this model is not allowed to be sold in the US they were able to issue it a va title. (although my friend cannot get it insured)

"'89 Protege 405". LOL.

I didn't know that 405 were sold in United States, nice seats though.

They were the last Peugeots sold in America, from 1989-92, in DL, S and MI-16 models.

Also a Rover 75 (I saw the pic of the 416 and it reminded me of this one I saw a few months ago: http://www.grautogallery.com/vehicles/2260/2000-Rover-75

This is more explainable as a lot of Rover 75s were shipped to the US for testing.

Nice 405 for sale in NY: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Peugeot-405-406-405-1990-peugeot-405-s-wagon-one-owner-/131404782644

Note the electric seat belts which you wouldn't see on an EU car. I also can't recall seeing an early EU 405 with full leather, though the highest spec late cars did have it, IIRC.

Want a Citroën C6 in New-York?

9-year old Citroën for $35000? Yes, please. I heard the C5 actually drives better than the C6. (The expensive versions with hydropneumatic suspension spheres)

Even when the seller includes the transport of the car and the buyer with the

the price is a joke.

The other way it would be a fair deal. The US-buyer books a trip for him, his wife, his kids, his mother-in-law plus the Citroen on the QM2, and even when he adds the car-price, he had saved money.

I was told that too. Still, the C5 doesn't look anything like as cool.

You compare a car already in New York and already registered there, maybe the only one there, with cars here in Europe that may be quite difficult/annoying to register.
I do not know how they did for that one though, but on forum-auto (where I found the link) they say that the car was already compliant with US specs (DRL, miles odometer, ...) in case Citroën wanted to make a comeback.

I'm not sure how they got it into the US with the import restrictions. It's not 25yo, so I would imagine it's either had to be modified to meet emissions and safety laws or it's on a limited "show" registration.

It's odd: usually it's the old lady who is thrown away from home and replaced by a (much) younger one?
