Once I've washed my NSU 1200 C with scouring-creme and a cooking-pot-sponge
That car has burned a lot of oil, so the whole back was sticky with smeary black oil-dust.
The painting (which wasn't good and original anyways) I could fresh up later with polish and wax - but the colour of the license-plate and even the registration-stickers on it were gone.
Such a car I had, even in the same colour: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_118734-NSU-1200-1970.html

In the summer I washed and waxed the minivan once a month. I usually wash and wax the Tempo and Cheyenne at least once a month except for the winter season.

I wash the Daimler usually weekly(by hand), but in this weather(constantly raining) it`s dirty again within 3 miles...
Lastinpurples right though, I think clean cars do attract vandals more.
Mine had an "N" keyed into the bonnet over the Christmas break...

My Crown Vic,once every 1-2 wks,though I haven't waxed it for awhile,and won't be for awhile?(getting repainted soon,bad clearcoat issues)My pickup gets washed when it rains,it's old & beat up,it looks worse clean!(Dirt hides a lot of dings & dents....and mismatched paint..)

Once every couple of weeks is good enough for me. , however it's cleaner than all of my family's cars.

My K 70 I'm washing before club-meetings (but sometimes I'm too lazy), so 1 to 2 times per year.
My all-day-Opel Omega I'm washing, when the windows are too dirty to look out.
The Omega I'm driving mostly through the car wash, the K 70 never. At first I'm suspicious about scratches in the 34-year-old-metallic-paint and because a K 70-back will never getting clean in a car wash.

..I haven't washed my Rover since I brought it (..over a year.!)
Just not worth it in the area I live.!
(If it looks good ..it's more of an attraction for vandals/gangs.!!) ...so better Dirty and camouflaged.! (..as long as it runs ok...i'm not worried about the appearance.!)

So you own a Rover ! Which model? Is it reliable? It's easy to find spare parts after the demise of the marque?
I don't want to make you an interrogation, but it interests me a lot

When I had my Clio I hardly ever washed it, I preferred to let the rain do that job It never got that dirty although a slight layer of grime (not very noticable) began to coat the car (which the rain doesn't get rid of), so my fingers would get dirty if I touched the bodywork. If I had a car I was actually proud of, then I'd wash it often. People don't seem to bother waxing their cars these days, because modern cars have paint that is already treated to protect it from the elements. My dad said it was something most people only used to do in the 60s (and maybe 70s), the days when cars actually needed working on at weekends.

I usually wash my car (automatic car wash) once every couple weeks and I hand wash and wax it twice a year.

I am in Connecticut, and my car is in Alaska. I go to AK for the winter, and while I am up there I wash my car every week. And when the weather is warmer, I wax it every two weeks. The interior is never dirty really (people must take their shoes off if they are dirty before they enter it, and put them in a box in the trunk).
