@Buc84: the Jaguar has uncomfortable seats? Hmm.

When my Opel Omega will getting broken, I would like to have one of these big cars as next one.
The main reason is the comfort. I like the "grandfather-sofa-style" and not lowered "sportive" cars with a hard suspension.

And you can drive more relaxed with a big car than with a smaller one. It may sounds strange, but it's easy to see on the German Autobahn. If a big car is coming, even it's not driving fast or aggressive, the other drivers make the left lane free for it.
If there is a small car, you will easily think "What's up, fucking Polo/Corsa/Fiesta/Clio (etc.)? The left lane is not your place!"

And annother reason for buying an older used big car is, that often they are cheaper than smaller cars with the same age and mileage. Surely, the running costs (garage! spare parts!) are higher, sometimes (but not always) the fuel consumption, too, but you will get more car for the same money.

A VW Phaeton would be a good choice. It's not very popular, so the prices for used Phaeton's are ridiculous, compared with the price for a brand new one. The time will come, when an old Phaeton will be cheaper than a same-aged Golf!

I LOVE the 1995-2001 BMW 7-Series like this one

But the new ones are SO UGLY!!! So I had to pick my default choice, which was the Town Car

I picked a Town Car because I love the big old cars and this is the last of its breed. I also like the DTS since it is more modern than the Town Car but I'd rather RWD with a V8.

This is the first time I've ever seen a Lincoln Town Car and Caddy DTS put together with an S-Class Mercedes and 7-Series BMW. I guess they are sort of in the same class, both being luxury sedans.. Well, I'd take the S-Class. But I'd sell it and buy all my dream cars, in addition to a Lincoln Town Car. The Town Car is the only one I've driven out of the ones listed, and it was so insanely comfortable..

I noticed that too? Funny thing is,of all the listed cars,if I were to them grades on a 1-100 scale would all but two be in the mid-90's,there would also be a 2-way tie for 1st,a 3-way tie for second, and a 2-way tie for 3rd!!! (Jaguar & Maserati last only due to one's very questionable parts/service in US,(Maserati)and the other one's painfully uncomfortable front seat?(Jaguar))

I chose the Audi, because Volvo S80 wasn't on the list.

I picked mine (Town Car) for an odd practicality issue: It's the one car I KNOW I can easily find parts for here??(Every little town has a Ford dealer there or nearby) Cadillac also a good choice(2nd)but some of the electronics (it has a lot!)seem like a future problem.I put Jag & Maserati at the bottom for two very different reasons.Maserati's are cars no one knows much about if it breaks & VERY expensive to fix when it does, the Jag for a very simple personal reason: The seats in the few I've driven/ridden in make my back hurt.REALLY hurt!!

i'd have an S-class, i like the looks and it has loads of features

You forgot the Nissan Cima/President/Q45! I'd take that one in a jiffy, it's gawgoos. Oh, and Hyundai Equus, Ssangyong Chairman and GMH's WM (Statesman, Caprice, Park Avenue, L4X, you name it)

This time I went practical rather than ideological. First of all, I wouldn't have any of them new. Secondly, a few get the boot from the outset:

W221 is unbelievably ugly and an insult to the nameplate. The autobox's column stalk tops the pile of manure with a rotten cherry.

Jag XJ is killed by the hideous old and cheap interior detals - I love Jaguar, but this is just too much.

The DTS is both old and ugly.

The Lincoln Town Car is an enticing choice, but the last round of touch-ups didn't end up too well for it. And yes, I know it's the oldest of the bunch.

Quattroporte will be my eternal love, but I can't forgive Fiat for letting so much cheapness in the interior linger for so long. Still the best-looking saloon EVER.

Lexus LS has matured very well, but Toyota's insistence on recycling such embarassing elements as the four-digit LCD displays from the 1980s, as well as the new "we are here to capture your Earth" interior design theme does not sit in will with me.

The three left - 7er, A8 and Phaeton - are all good choices, practical, modern and reasonably good-looking. I think I'd choose the Phaeton because of both interior and exterior styling, exclusivity (not much chance to meet another down the road) and humongous depreciation (remember I'd buy used).

:dawajarjar: Hahaaaa, I put the Jag in front!

I`ve driven most of the cars on the list & although I am biased, the Jaguar is truely the best car here.

In all areas other than passenger room & boot space & possibly residuals, the XJ wins hands down, especially in supercharged `R` guise & preferbaly in Black!

*so happy its in front!*
