P.S. The excitement, some "experts" are making about oil, is absolutely stupid IMHO
Especially, when the car is consuming oil, all this expensive premium stuff (Pennzoil, Castrol, Molykote, etc.) is wasted money. Take the cheapest no-name-bargain-supermarket-sludge, and everything will be fine.

Since my Bundeswehr-times 20 years ago, I hate changing oil and oil filter so much, that I've never done it again.
Caused by the f.cking obstructed construction of the Volkswagen T3 "DoKa"-engine
For filling up the oil, you have to pull out a telescope-nozzle. It's so narrow, that you have to fill the oil in only drop by drop. Just a bit more, it'll swash out (mainly over your clothes..)
No kidding, for the full filling of a T3 DoKa-oil-supply you need more than half an hour!

The key moment for my hate of oil-changing happened also there, also at a VW T3.
The oil-screw stucked. After scratching my fingers, the wrench slipped off. Due the power, I gave to the wrench, I've slipped also down the stairs of the garage's pothole - the old oil filter felt on my head, the bucket with the old oil over my clothes

Since then I've never changed oil by myself. Fortunately all of the cars, I had and still have since that time (early 1991), are consuming oil. So I only fill up. And just filling up is o.k., even since over 100.000 km, even 200.000 km per car, with only filling up, there was never any oil-caused defect on them.
But every few years my cars got an oil-change: when the garagist or friends have done some other work on them. Then I've said "please change the oil, too". But for myself, I'll never do that any more.

I have purchased a oil filter clamp and successfully removed the old oil filter despite damaging the cannister. Do you finger tight the oil filter yourself after changing the oil filter?

Changing the oil filter are always pain in the butt

Channellocks or even better; a pipe wrench. I think that channellocks just tend to skid over the surface. I would recommend that you use a heat gun too.

Remember to smere a thin oilfilm over the O-ring on the new oil filter, they tend to get stuck like that if you don't. Also the oil filter should only be tighten with bare hands not with any tools or else it will sit to tight!

I already tried the screwdriver trick; it just twisted and mangled the oil filter even further.

I’ll try the channellocks tomorrow.

I have had this happen a few times, most of the time I can either get a large set of Chanelocks on it to loosen the filter or drive a large screwdriver horizontally through the filter and use it like a t-handle to loosen it.

Earlier today, I decided to change the oil in my vehicle, so I went out, gathered the oil and appropriate filter. I returned home and started the process of servicing the vehicle. After draining the oil, I proceeded to remove the old oil filter. Well, while doing so, the filter buckled, and then collapsed.

Tomorrow, I must find a way to get it off, somehow. I’m so upset right now I can’t see straight (sad, more than mad).
