These plates came with the car, and the umlaute is nice but I would much rather have WOB plates (Ive moved the newer WOB plate to the golf since it would be period correct for that car and put the SÜW plate on the Jetta, until you can find me some older WOB plates 
but they are not from Wolfsburg, they are from Südliche Weinstraße
Annother point, we plate-freaks already know: send plates with Umlaute to the US-freaks. They love it very much. As this SÜW
Except plates from towns, where German car companies have their headquarter or other plants, from towns and counties, where US-troops are stationated, plates with Umlaute are liked, too.

Hmm, let see, what is possible. Old WOB-plates are often inquired by VW-freaks overseas. Years ago I've send a packet with them to Japan.
There are two smaller difficulties with them:
a) to get some with an un-scratched silver sticker. Because this is the evidence, that the vehicle has a valid registration, rhey have to be destroyed, when the registration became void
b) plates with the font and in the style, which were used in 1987, are not issued any more since 2000. So they became a bit rare.
Anyways, it should be solvable
There are two smaller difficulties with them:

yes all the real German tags that I have have one of the seals either completly gone or mostly scratched off, so I don't mind that as much, I just want to have something more authentic in a WOB plate for when I go to car shows. I have a set of older German tags that I use but they are not from Wolfsburg, they are from Südliche Weinstraße

@ingo, also I know you collect license plates so you probably have lots of connections there, I am looking for a set of matching WOB plates that would be period correct for my Jetta II (1987) is this something that can be found reasonably or am I just wishful thinking?

Which is smart and conducive to the business for someone, who has a spare parts shop in the deepest VW-region. He told me, that there are two Jetta II-freaks around him and he'll ask them for those goodies.About my first sentence: those Jetta-fellows are keen to pimp their cars to the American style. So it would be appreciated, if you could check the junkyards and wreckers around for older and really old Volkswagens. Or if old-established aftersales-market-dealerships have some NOS-stuff in the storage. Maybe there are some goodies, the freaks here are crazy for
What should I be on the look out for at the scrapyards? My local yard sends me a text message anytime they get a new VW or Jeep in. I have often traded Suzuki parts with friends overseas. One fellow I sent all parts to convert his Suzuki Vitara to a Geo Tracker (lights, cluster, grille, rear bumper, emblems) and he sent all of those parts to me to turn one of my Trackers into a Vitara years ago
So I would be glad to do stuff like that again for VW fans.
