OK, the script is half-finished movie only takes place during summer '99, but there are some scenes in the beginning set between 1984 and 1998.
Lots of movie references too, you can see the Jetta using a replica of http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_25982-Ford-LTD-Country-Squire-1979.html (to show: This is the chaotic road movie you want to watch!) as a ramp to smash into a mall, the VW lands directly next to a 83-87 Ford LTD Crown Vic which is also wreaking havoc (hommage to the opening scene of this film ) the police car pursues the Jetta, and the scene melts into a Blues Brothers Chase, complete with an arranged version of the mall chase theme and a scene where the Jetta smashes through an Oldsmobile dealership located outside of the mall, stocked with '99 Auroras, Aleros, Silhouettes, Intrigues, Bravadas, Cutlasses, LSSes and Eighty-Eights ('99 was last MY for the latter)
And Ryan (that is how I named the boy) says....

Wickey has participated in a movie, as he wrote a time ago here in the forum.
And there are other members, who are studying movie-making or acting according their profiles.

That was Q-ball I think.

I think some IMCDb members have made short movies before (was it "taxiguy"?) which had a car chase. It was rather good actually.
I do not really remember...
Wasn't it rather one of the Polish members? (or some other Eastern Europe country)

I'm working on the script, but I don't think any of my relatives or friends will be joining the cast.

Have you typed out a full scrip yet? Do you plan on having friends or family act out the roles?

I've been having an idea of making a road movie for quite a while now, but it's only now that I share it on the forum. I call this movie "Last Year", read on to see why.
There'll be a strict "no-anachronism" rule.
The movie begins on December 31st, 1998 but is set between July 1999 and late 2002, although the main part of the movie is set in July '99.
Two teenagers, one boy and one girl, both 14 years old, are on a road trip with their parents across the USA in their http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_6003-Volkswagen-Jetta-Typ-1H-1996.html (the one in the movie is a 1997). The boy is a Sonic fan, and is eagerly awaiting the release of Sonic Adventure. The girl...well, I haven't thought up any interests for her.
Throughout the entire movie they occasionally meet a dysfunctional family in a http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_677216-Fleetwood-Southwind-Storm-1998.html which does some crazy stuff in the movie, such as going off a cliff, then landing on a pickup truck with a camping top like http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_659551-Chevrolet-C-Series.html except that the movie car is a http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_596882-Ford-F-Series-1981.html In the end, the Class A falls off the Golden Gate Bridge. After towing it out, the father tries to open the jammed door, which opens with a jerk, resulting in Bay Area water splashing all over him.
Some more funny scenes in the movie featuring cars:
When the family runs out of food, they steal some barbecue food from rednecks, who pursue them in a http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_61181-Toyota-Truck-RN30-1979.html
They meet a strange hippie in a http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/be/1st_Toyota_Prius_--_01-13-2010.jpg who warns them about global warming in the next millennium.
The boy comments about how ugly some rednecks motor home http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_29186-Aloha-30-.html is, and they overhear it since the family car's windows and the RV's windows are open. The rednecks then call the family's car a "nazi mobile", resulting in the boy correcting them that "only the Bug was designed by Hitler," and a chase following, with the RV landing in a river.
When the boy needs to go to the bathroom, he forces the family to stop at an RV park and takes a dump in a strangers RV http://media.channelblade.com/boat_graphics/dealers/38964/digi49394063_l.jpg A scream is heard and the boy runs out.
And lastly, there's a 2003 New Beetle Convertible painted bright yellow with Golf 4 GTI rims, driven by cheering VW fans as a mockup of http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_88033-Volkswagen-New-Beetle-Convertible-Typ-1Y-2000.html Described as 1999 for the 2000 model year in the film.
