Thank you. My Dad bought this car in Jan, 1982 in the little town of Belen, NM. It was on consignment at a tiny little car lot and he said the seller was from Long Beach but living in Belen at the time. The car still has the original warranty booklet that showed the original owner was indeed from Long Beach. I still remember the day my Dad brought the car home and it was the spitting image of the car on Chips. Unfortunately that was before digital cameras and we never took too many pictures back then. My dad changed the wheels not long after buying the car but I know somewhere I should have a few more pictures of it other than the one I posted that shows it with the hub caps still on it.
My dad was driving thru a canyon early one morning and hit a deer with it which bent the hood and drivers side head light bucket. Here's a picture from the drag strip in Pueblo, CO that kind of shows the damage, thankfully the damage was minimal..
After replacing the hood and headlight bucket etc.. he had the car painted but unfortunately changed the color too Flame Red from an 80's Corvette. I have now owned the car since 2005 & it still has the paint my Dad had put on it. My plans down the road are to return it back to it's original color of Signal Flare Red.
This is what the car looks like today..
Anyway this all started as just a joke between me & my daughters. We caught season 1 episode 17 on TV about a year ago and my daughter said that looks like the old pictures of our car. I agreed but we laughed about it as I said it sure does & 100 other cars that looked just like it back then. lol... Well after some teasing back & forth I went online to a Mustang website "VMF" and started asking for production #s No one gave me exact #'s but pretty much everyone seemed to agree the combo of Signal Flare Red with a Black Vinyl Top and the GT package was quite rare and take into the fact the car was likely in the area at the time of filming that there would be a strong possibility the Chips Mustang is indeed our Mustang.
So I was hoping someone may know someone that might have more info on the cars used thru out the show..
Thanks again

That's pretty cool, I always wondered if anyone recognized their cars in old movies/TV shows without originally knowing that they were in fact in that movie/TV show. Especially one like CHiPs which probably has one of the largest pages and most cars on the entire IMCDb website. Not to mention it being in L.A. where a lot of people keep their old cars.

Maybe it will show up on this pic a little better..

Thanks for the reply, yes this is the factory GT stripe. It's on the Chips car also, it just doesn't hardly show up on my poor quality pictures, but you can see it when watching the episode.
antp
I guess that finding/confirming such info would be rather impossible
In the series it does not seem to have a black stripe at the bottom of the side; was that added later? Or was it a factory thing?

Hello,
Does anyone have any info on the use of background cars during the chips television seres?
What started off as a joke has now got me convinced there is a strong chance I may own the Signal Flare Red 66 GT Mustang used about a minute & half into this episode. My car is from Long beach and would have been in the area at the time of filming.
Here are a couple of screen shots of the car..
Here are a few bad pictures of my car from around 1982-83. The first picture shows the car still wearing the original hubcaps..
and after we changed the wheels..
Thank you in advance,
Nick
