For slowdowns on updates/posts, I changed another setting, we'll see if it improves things or not.

 This is weird.
Did you have that systematically when using the "sort" option? Because it should not be related to that.
Maybe you can try to clear your IMCDb cookies, as that error is often rather related to that. Possibly some ads stored too much crap (as IMCDb itself does not store much in the cookies). After which you'll have to log in again.
To do so, in Firefox you click on the shield on the left of the address bar -> Clear cookies and site data.
In other browsers I'm not sure how you can selectively clear cookies just for one site (don't do it for all) but there should also be a way.

Using the sort by is no good nowadays cause this is what I receive

Sorry - no idea about the bot filter being active. But the problem was there for the 4-5 days I took posting that series - I'm a slow steady poster even when things are working OK.

Was the bot filter active?
As there are two new very active ones, that seems more common these days.
There is an additional change that I should deploy to try to help with vehicle / movie / comment posting, but I haven't had time this week, I'll try to do that this weekend.

In addition to that, since yesterday there was a Russian IP trying to find security issues on various pages with an automatic script, quite useless but he was quite persistent. I blocked that IP, but if he changed, then it would also slow everything down. I really have to put in place some automatic detection of abusers.

From what I can tell, the site runs fine until I edit a vehicle or make a comment with a picture attached.

Same here for a series I've just posted. Normally I put this down to my ricketty old laptop with Windows 7, but this time I also tested it on my newer Windows 10 reserve laptop and had same sluggishness. Moving between pages and scrolling etc works fine on both.

Since the changes for makes, there were only minor changes/fixes, so these should have no impact.
After the service restart I did 24h ago, it seemed to work fine, even yesterday evening CET when it is usually slower.
Do you still encounter big slowdowns like last week, or does it work better since yesterday?

From what I can tell, the site runs fine until I edit a vehicle or make a comment with a picture attached. That's why I was asking if it had something to do with recent changes you have made. I thought you had done more since adding the changes to adding makes?

even had
" Error in database request - Failed to read auto-increment value from storage engine

Hmm that's strange. I've restarted the database service, since it was started since long time, maybe it accumulated some issues, a fresh start may help.

Yeah, I'm wondering if something from the latest update is causing edits and comments to time out. That seems to be when things are slowing down.

Do you mean the new make system? That was more than a month ago, slowdowns on edits were much more recent than that. In the last days there were two new agressive bots, these didn't help for sure, but possibly there is something else.
Maybe we hit again a limit of the current server, at some point the growing of the site may cause an issue for the current architecture, limiting useless vehicles would be easier than finding real solutions
