Yes, France too. Britain probably has the most classic car culture.
The least they can do is remove the blue band and not waste space.

Huh, that's a wide field, as we say in German.

The topic with plates for classic cars in Germany is -for plate freaks and lovers of authenticy- a pure annoyance since 25 years.

Back then the H-plate, also the red 07-plate for classic car collections were introduced.
It was based on tax reasons (special insurances existed before) and was developed by the DEUVET, the association of German classic car clubs together with an engaged Federal Minister of Transportation (nearly the only, who wasn't a moron).

Already back then I warned, that a special plate would be the death for authentic plates (introduced on 1.7.1956) on old cars - but I was told: "Keep quiet. It's a topic of EU-wide harmonisation" - but this was pure bullshit.
Back then Germany was the only EU-country with a special plate for historic cars. Many years later only Poland and Spain followed.

In several EU-countries as Holland, Denmark, Luxemburg, Britain and IIRC also France you can have plates in the old style for classics.
No, the reason was annother: it was a lobbyism-thing of the monopolist (in many countries worldwide, not only in Germany) maker of license plates.

Good luck.. I don't know the German rules but in Holland you can request old school blue plates for vehicles pre-1978. In Belgium a problem because even a Ford T will get new euro plates, they spoil the look of any classic car.

500 kg, no brakes, no suspension.

In Germany all trailers have to be a registration - and the registration with the old plates was the only reason, why I've bought it.

But as I feared, there are problems: the dumb morons at the vehicle registration authority demand, that there has to be a new seal-sticker with QR-code and therefore a new plate - which of course I wont allow.

Somehow I will manage it, either with pressure made by lawyers plus an official complaint at the ministery, or with tricks as a registration on a friend in annother county as a figurehead.

One topic is clear without any discussion:
never ever I would allow, that an authority-dumbass will touch plate and seal-sticker.

How many KG? Less than 750 KG would be free of paper work in Belgium.

Fortunately I was successful today and could purchase a small trailer, built in 1947, with papers from 1968 and plates from 1973 from a Landkreis (county), which lost its own plates in 1974.

Hopefully everything will go right with the transfer of the papers on my name.

Otherwise you will read news about a traffic authority razed to ground.
I'm very suspicious about the morons and troglodytes working there.

For the non-German speakers: now there is a countrywide chance to save vehicles with an old registration and old plates.
So now I'm on the search for a trailer with an ancient registration.


Seit letzter Woche ist es möglich, bundesweit Fahrzeugzulassungen zu übernehmen, ohne das Fahrzeug auf den neuen Wohnort ummelden zu müssen.

Daher möchte ich Euch bitten, mir Bescheid zu geben, wenn bei Euch ein PKW-Anhänger (ein Wohnwagen sollte es nicht unbedingt sein) mit gültiger westdeutscher Altkreis-Zulassung zum Verkauf stehen sollte.
Ich würde gerne eine originale Altkreiszulassung retten...
