I was off by a few years, but that's the one! Even has the goof I mentioned on the IMDB page!
In the scene where Danny and Reuven tangle with the three street bullies, a modern (i.e., not 1940's) commercial bus passes in the cross street in the background."

Merci, Baube
Now, to find a possible place to stream it...

I was thinking Brighton Beach Memoirs, but that was set right before the war.

Back when I was in grade school (I was in an International School) our American Literature class read a coming-of-age novel about 2 Jewish American teenage boys living in WWII-era Brooklyn. I remember, after finishing the novel, we watched the novel's movie adaptation (or rather a "Movie made for TV" since I don't remember it having a high production value) in class. What was the title of this novel/movie? The only other thing I remember was that I IMDB'd it back then, before watching the adaptation, and the trivia listed "an anachronistic modern bus passes in the background in one scene". That, and that the movie I think was made some time between 1985 and 1995,
If I can figure out what it was I'm inclined to add it to IMCDb (assuming it isn't already added, and I can source a copy) since there were a few circa-1940 American cars that people at IMCDB might appreciate (though IIRC none of them had more than 2 star roles).
