Is anyone here taking still captures from streaming Netflix videos? What software are you using to do so?
I've been googling around for info but figured I should ask here first. (most search results seem to be about saving the whole video, which is not what I'm looking for, and sounds quite illegal)

I tried doing it when I had Netflix but was never able to find a way. I once asked antp about taking captures from purchased streaming video on amazon and he said something to the effect that it wouldn't really be possible. I don't know if it's the same there.

When I got captures from streaming I used SnagIt. I still use it when I redo some video music contributions if I find the same video the contributor posted with better quality.
In the official site, SnagIt is only free trial.
I send to both a PM if you want get this software from others ways.

I don't use anything. I just pause it, push the paste screen button, and put it on a paint file. Then I re-edit that file by cropping what I don't need and converting it to a jpeg.

But, sometimes, in some streamings after user push copy+paste the result is an all black picture. Programs as I advised above to owlman and ford_guy, allows the user to get the picture you are watching in streaming and 'save as' the folder you choose on your PC.

I know I'm a little late to this topic, but I use Irfanview for ALL my capturing:
http://www.irfanview.com/
It's free for non-commercial use, and it does a really good job at capturing screen shots from Netflix or windows media player.
When using it, just go to "Options" then scroll down to "Capture/screenshot" to set it up.

Just an update, it works fine. I almost feel silly for asking I use XnView to grab screenshots on my PC and the native screen-capture Command+Shift+3 on my Mac.
I do miss frame-step capabilities though. In MPC-HC (where I make most of my captures) I always frame-step forward and backward to get the perfect shot of a vehicle. With Netflix streaming you have to be fast with the spacebar! And then, if you miss the shot, you have to rewind and wait for the HD footage to buffer again

Old thread, but I have to bring this up;
I just tried to download it, and I couldn't decide which files to associate it with, so I cancelled my download. I've been in the same boat as vilero for a while, long after I posted my reply.

What do you mean by "which file associate"?
As download mirror link you can chose fosshub, that's the one I use for my own programs, it is clean

What do you mean by "which file associate"?
Well, let's take a look at that;
GIF, Multipage TIF and Multiple ICO. It has support for many graphic file formats (constantly updated). Just a couple of them: BMP, DIB, JPG, JPEG, PSD, PDF, GIF, TTF, TXT, ANI, CUR, CLP, DDS, CAM, Mac PICT, QTIF, MP4, WAD, WBMP, RAS, SUN, SFF, PPM ( and many other graphic file formats supported). Support has been extend over the years for video and audio files. Just a shortlist of them: WAV, AVI, WMA, WMV, MPG, MPEG, MP3, MID and many others
There are files I don't need to work with and files that I do, but I don't know what Amazon and Netflix use.

It just says what is supported, but you don't have to do any choice at that point, do you?
It is just the specifications of the program

There's still nothing working for me right now.
In the meantime, Terra posted some images from the Netflix-only sci-fi political thriller "Between," and when I asked how he captured them, he never told me a thing.

If you describe clearly what's the problem I may try to help

I thought it was related to the xnview problem you tried to describe previously.
So it is for making captures in Netflix? You were using the capture function of XnView? It captures fine but can't save? Or it can't even capture?
In the latter case, maybe try the program "Fraps"; maybe it will work for video overlay, it is originally more for games but it may work for video...

Sorry, but my anti-virus program detected an infection there.

You download it from the official site http://www.fraps.com/download.php ?
It seems safe: https://www.virustotal.com/fr/file/2680f1d376e81f77b177013da5ed70ecbbad528ca3298- 27f65987fb14fa30e07/analysis/1449239194/

Does this seem safe to you?
1)http://www.threatexpert.com/threats/behaveslike-win32-processhijack.html
2)http://greatis.com/cleanvirus/?s=PE%3APacker.Win32.Mian007.a%21493501+5D
Because they're both Malware from your second link.

As it says in the name, "behaveslike" means it is suspicious because it looks like know viruses, but it is most likely a false alarm.
In the same way, the second one having "packer" in its name I'd guess it is also a false alarm due to the compression used for the installer or the executable itself.
It is up to you, but this program is well know and all the other results of the page mark it safe (only 2 out of 54 gave a bad result).
But I don't want to force you to trust me over your antivirus, both me and it can be wrong (which one is it btw?)
