Brochures & how to proceed
Published 17/04/2020 @ 01:52:32, By dhill_cb7
Hello everyone,

I have a dilemma. I have been ordering and buying OEM brochures/dealer documents/converter brochures and I want to store the PDFs somewhere instead of using auto-brochures.com and the like.

Would the forum be able to hold brochures?
How would I upload them?
How does one scan a brochure t have it ledgible?

I’d attach my excel document of what I purchased and what I have currently. It will most definitely help us narrow plenty of vehicles further. An example would be there was an added B-Series for 1983 that none of our members (beside elmer) knew about called the B-7000.

Please let me know how to proceed. I would love to have a section or a sticky pertaining to brochures. Admins and other members please let me know what you think.

Also, this wouldn’t be excousive to me. Rjluna2 or any other member can contribute but I want to try and have a complete (forever work in progress) list of documents pertaining to vehicles.

I’m really excited to have begun purchasing these. Really cool to read the OEM documents. Please comment below

I think a separate section for brochures would be ideal. Keeping all the brochures in one section and then dividing them by make and model would be good. I’m all for it.

I have done this before. If memory serves I was using a fairly standard HP all in one scanner and had no issues with quality (other than Rover and their insistence on sizing brochures just above A4 size). You just had to take that second or two to make sure the orientation was okay and the brochure laid flat on the scanner. I was saving as image files, but don't think it would be too difficult to do as PDFs.

Antp would probably be the best person to ask about storage. Obviously there are limitations on how much server space we have. Maybe it's worth using a reliable hosting system like Google drive to hold them? The Range Rover site I use for reference has the pictures hosted that way

I didn't see that there was here a sibling topic to the one posted in the admin section.
So I'll copy-paste what I posted there:

Files can be attached to forum posts, but there is a size limit and I'm not sure it accepts PDFs.
If needed, I can store the PDFs somewhere on IMCDb' server. That could be a good way to archive these in a safe way.
Best for that would be to upload them on https://ks3c.antp.be/upload.php
Please use a standardized name (e.g. make_model_year.pdf)*
And notify me via e-mail or forum private message so I can provide you back the final link of the file once I moved it to its public location on the server.

I'll play the devil's advocate here, but is it the core mission of IMCDb to store PDF brochures ? I don't know who's behind auto-brochures.com, but don't they accept submissions ? There are other similar sites too.

Indeed if there are better sites for that, they could be used instead if they seem reliable
I was just suggesting IMCDb's server rather than free random hosting.

Digging up an old thread...
@dhill_cb7: how is your project going?
As said by rjluna2, what about contributing to the Old Car Manual Project? The site is looking for contributors. auto-brochures.com too, as seen in the footer of the page:
Please email us brochures not shown on site
