How do people feel about smileys? I found them good at first when I was new here, but over time I come to find them slightly inane sometimes, not all the time of course, it depends on how they are used. Sometimes I find this one a bit irksome and sometimes when people use this one I wonder why it is being used, especially someone is disagreeing with me. To me that one means "no worries, my friend", so usually it's OK, although sometimes I think it's used a little too often, so it seems a little overfriendly. And I've never really understood this one , to me it's like that fed-up sigh people use in arguements. Although at least ones like this aren't used too often.

I think the thing is text can look very stark and blank, so people might read too much into it unless you reassure someone with a happy smiley. You can't use different tones of voice over the internet, so it does affect communication, when you vocally speak to someone, it's far easier to detect their mood (even handwriting shows more human emotion).

I wish I had more choice of smileys sometimes, but I can never be bothered to spend time searching for more I can use.
