That's a very American selection to counter Top Gear's list, which is perhaps too European.
I've been looking at the DVLA site for some of these license plates:
For example the Beetle (which as mentioned above is unique as the first Beetle in Britain)
Date of Liability 01 04 2006
Date of First Registration 01 03 1948
and the DS:
Date of Liability 01 11 1992
Date of First Registration 29 03 1960
Aren't these expired dates rather worrying? I'm guessing these are likely to be R.I.P.?
