I remember a thread on VaRaces talking about something like this, but it's been inactive for a long while.

Y'know, you see a car chase and/or crash scene in a good movie that most certainly got a theatrical release, then you go see a bad movie that probably never left the small screen, and see the very same car chase and/or crash scene, with shots of different actors pasted in, etc.

If you guys wanna mention examples you've seen of this, then this is the place.

I have a lot of examples, but I won't tell you ALL of them now. It's a BIG lot of examples.

A lot were mentioned on the site as when listing cars from a movie this can be quickly noticed

Let's start off with one minor example: American Tigers (1996) has a car chase at the beginning. It's quite mediocre. We see two of the cars crash and flip over, which is actually stock footage shot for the car chase in Colors (1988) (which I'd much prefer viewing!).

Then, there's the car chases in well-known movies which were reused many times, such as the bus chase in Red Heat (1988), the car chase in Species (1995) and the Ford Bronco scene in Narrow Margin (1990).

Not to mention the biggest offenders when it comes to reusing stock footage: Smokey Bites the Dust (1981) and Deadline Auto Theft (1983). The latter is a much bigger offender.

Then, there's old TV series. For example, whenever a car fell off a cliff, it was always the same. The UK had their white Jaguar and red Renault, the US had their red Jaguar XK-E --originally shot for
The Jerk (1979)-- and their black Chrysler E-Class, among others.

Do you guys have more examples? (Obviously, there are more.)

Yeah, I had forgotten the "Death Becomes Her" Mercedes explosion. I remember seeing it first on Getty Images and never knowing where it came from until a while back.

And for the Rover from Father Ted, I searched a little and saw no sign of it being reused anywhere?

There's one I didn't mention: It's a black 1965 Lincoln Continental falling off a cliff. I don't know what the car is, but the footage was used in a few '80s TV series.

The A-Team (episode The Spy who Mugged Me), Hardcastle & McCormick (episode You and the Horse You Rode in On), Airwolf (episode Kingdom Come) and Knight Rider (episode Trust Doesn't Rust, along with footage from The Car (1977)) all used it. The footage could be seen in the now-defunct BBC Motion Gallery, and according to the description, was shot in 1969.

It was later used in the American-Independent productions Terminal Force (1989), Angel Eyes (1993) and Fatal Justice (1994) (the latter of which reused the whole surrounding sequence from Terminal Force).

Basically the entire series of "The Fall Guy" consisted on stunt man Colt performing movie stunts. Most of his "stunt-work" scenes were taken from other productions. Most of his "bounty-hunter work" chase scenes were original.

The chase scene with the Lotus and Dodge Diplomat from "Basic Instinct" was reused in other productions.

First, there is the obvious offender L.A. Heat. I don't think I know about a TV show that recycles more footage than this show. It is a good thing, though - because most of the car crash scenes from those DTV movies of the 90s are actually pretty good but at the same time rather obscure.

One thing I can't take, though - is that pathetic episode of McGyver where they ripped off the whole chase scene from the Italian Job - what kind of fool thought of that as a good idea? I like McGyver, but that episode made me turn the TV off.

Then there's Nu Image. They make a movie, and years later, feel the need to recycle footage for another movie. There's that chase ending with a crash and an explosion in Point of Impact (1993) which was recycled for Never Say Die (1994) and Merchant of Death (1997). Outside of L.A. Heat, PM Entertainment also did that, a well-known example is the first car chase from CyberTracker (1994) being recycled for The Silencers (1996).

There's also footage in Quake (1992) that was reused. First, there's that scene where a downed pole falls on a Ford Thunderbird along with a blue Beetle crashing into it. That part was reused in Shakedown (2002), and more famously, there's the Cadillac convertible driving off an overpass and exploding, which was reused in Caroline at Midnight (1994), Victim of Desire (1995) and Scorpio One (1998).

There's also Hostile Environment (2000), with a sequence where many cars explode. That part was stolen from First Blood (1982), of all movies.

Then, there's the AIP Studios release Cold Heat (1989), directed by Ulli Lommel, which steals the Cadillac chase from The Junkman (1982) and motorcycle and airplane footage from Iron Eagle (1986).

Not to mention another AIP Studios release, The Big Sweat (1991), from the same director, which steals the whole chase from Gone in 60 Seconds (1974).

There's also Gale Force (2002), which reuses the car chase from Last Action Hero (1993). No joke.

Then, there's Mach 2, which reuses the car chase from The Mechanic. Normally, I'd have no problem with it... if only it weren't a 2001 movie reusing something from a 1972 movie!!

I mentioned the red Renault. It was first used 30 years before.

And the Malibu is actually the gray car, staying parked, having no importance other than to propel the blue car (Ford Thunderbird) upwards.

You're both right. The crashing car is a Thunderbird, the crashed car is the Malibu.

I forgot that one. I never saw the chase before in either movie, but I just got myself Top of the World (for 0,00$, as usual), I'll have to check out that chase. Btw, that's another Nu Image example.

Then, there's Fatal Justice (1994), a REALLY bad American-Independent production which not only reuses two car scenes from earlier A-I production Terminal Force (1989), but also takes footage from a Texas stuntmen group demo reel.

Not to mention the speeding Mustang scene in Capricorn One (1977) ending with the car driving off the open drawbridge into the waters below. I saw it reused in an episode of The Fall Guy (wotta surprise...), and the fall-off-the-bridge alone was reused in an episode of Hardcastle and McCormick, doubling a Mercury Cougar in a car chase.
