Err... - no!

Betweenwhiles GM tried again to station their US-products in Europe - and they failed all the time. Especially Germany is a awkward market about that.

Actually you can buy these monsters obver here. It depends on the local Opel/Vauxhall-dealer, if he has the interest and the connections to look for that.

Frankly said: the US-influence was always more negative than postive for Opel/Vauxhall. Every time, US-standards -about quality, about behaviour, about marketing, about design, about anything- were pushed over here, it became disastrous for Opel.

You mean get rid of the existing brands and replace them by another brand that nobody remembers, then scrap everything after six years ? Oh yes, I look forward to the return of Ranger ! :grin:

Talking about trends and pickups, there also a new trend for "small" (US size speaking) models in Europe. See the new models unveiled by makes which usually don't sell such vehicles (Renault Alaskan / Mercedes Benz X-Class or the Fiat Fullback), the fact that the last Ford Ranger sells a lot more than the previous generations or that the VW Amarok is also really present on the roads.
Will there be a new PeugeOpel Campo? :grin:

About the takeover: let's hope Opel/Vauxhall won't end like Chrysler Europe...

Oh but we have those in Belgium. Grey imports with many chrome bits, driven by the kind of people who often pay anything cash in hand.

Mostly Chevys and Rams, but I've seen an F-150 Platinum today.

I know, but in Europe and particularly the UK there's also a trend towards more upmarket, smaller cars where people buy a saloon or large hatch (this has been the case since before crossovers came on the scene). As an example, last month both the 3-Series and C-Class made the ten best sellers, no large non-premium cars made the list.

Actually, the trend is towards crossovers, everywhere. The sedan market is shrinking as more people turn to them.

Still, I'm a bit sad with this takeover. I've never owned an Opel, but I always liked them (except in their 1998-2004 "cubist" period), and am still interested in the upcoming Insignia/Commodore/Regal sedan and wagon, even though the latter is bloody ginormous for our parking spaces. So the prospect of Opels with Peugeot "DNA" inside is a bit depressing.


Indeed, I like the look of the new Insignia but I was reading that the Estate is nearly 5metres long. The same goes for newer Mondeos, Superbs etc. I can't help but think that the sheer size of some of the cars in that sector is actually part of the reason that people buy compact executive type cars instead now which are much more popular and much smaller.

Buick will probably be fine. Buick Verano is already going to be discontinued in the US due to slow sales, and the Encore/Mokka was primarily designed by GM Korea so not significantly affected by the deal. Cascada will probably be discontinued after the normal lifecycle; it's a niche product anyway. Next LaCrosse will probably be designed in China, like the Envision. Expect to see more Chinese Buicks overall going forward.
