Are you kidding me? I thought we use the official model years and not the year when it was released. If we trust the common search results by Google we could change everything. The SK was released in July 1988 and sold some weeks after what means MY 1989!! And Daimler AG officially calls it 'SK 89'!!

And especially toy and model car makers don't use our way to list their cars, for example:
Herpa: VW Passat (B8) Variant, 2014; IMCDb: 2015 Volkswagen Passat Variant B8 [Typ 3G]
Minichamps: Audi V8 1988-1994; IMCDb: 1989 Audi V8 D1 [Typ 4C]...
