It is indeed not VIN-related, but Typ 5G seems correct for the Golf VII, at least it is used everywhere.

The interest of these codes is to use what people also use to refer to vehicles.
And to group different vehicles that have names change vary from one market to the other.
If you use too-specific codes, then it is useless: why not put the full VIN then
