Your gas mileage

Just out of curiousity how good is your gas mileage? Is it expensive to you? How big is your gas tank? I'm just curious. When I bought my Acura the previous owner told me she got about 17-18 mpg from it. It has an 18 gallon tank and unfortunately, it requires premium unleaded. (I did know that it required it before my purchase.) Last night when I went to Chevron to go fill it up and I spent $20 on a quarter tank, telling me it'd cost $80 to fill it up all the way. I had about a half tank but I wanted a full tank. Then the premium cost about $3.69 a gallon. I couldn't afford a full tank because I only had $30. And for the Americans what gas station do you recommend?

Gallons and mpg, these strange units
I have a 45 or 50 L tank (= about 12 or 13 gallons) and the car does between 7.5 and 8.5 L / 100 km (= about 32 to 28 mpg) for mixed use, i.e. not only freeway but not city traffic jam either.
Currently in Belgium the usual gasoline ("euro 95") at its best price is at 1.35 € / L (1.97 $), so 1 gallon is 5.10 € (7.48 $)
Diesel is at about 1 € / L.

The current average price of petrol (gas) in the UK has officially exceeded £1 per litre. 1 Pound Stirling = 2.05315 US Dollars.

1 litre = 0.264 Gallons (US liquid gallons)

So 1 gallon of gas/petrol in the UK is on average about £3.79 or $7.58

If I'm wrong, can someone please give the correct answer.

18mpg is pretty thirsty and expensive for a car in Europe. At a petrol station in Britain, your Acura would cost in the region of £68 to fill, that's $136.

It costs just under $30 to fill my MG (10 gallons) and it gets about 19 miles per gallon (not a modern efficient engine). Both the volvo and saab do much better.

Gas prices are low in the US compared with europe and that is why people here still drive such monsters. A damn Hummer to do grocery shopping

The reason some Americans complain about gas prices (they should think themselves lucky) is because they choose to drive such massive thirsty cars, like SUVs and pickup trucks. If they drove a modestly-sized non-4x4 car that got a good gas milage, they'd have nothing to complain about.

The price was more increased for them than for us, no?
Also, they have to travel longer distance usually (I suppose), so even with good mpg they still need to drive more.

Was it? Gas prices have gone up a lot in Britain in recent years. I'll ask my dad about it, he works at an Esso/Exxon-Mobil oil refinery.

Regardless, fuel prices has increased so much in the UK, I don't know HOW you can say it is worse for the Americans.

My Expedition Limited has a 28 gallon tank (about 105 Liters) Ford recommends using 87 Regular unleaded gasoline (petrol) as the Triton engine is designed to run off of the cheapest low quality fuel available without hindering performance. But I still fill it up with 89 Mid-Grade, so it takes me close to $100 dollars to fill it up (depending on which gas station I fill it up at) I get around 16 mpg driving around Wilmington, and I can squeeze 19 to 20 mpg on the highway ... but I don’t drive with the accelerator pushed to the floor either. Whenever I go Off-Road or I’m using it to tow/haul something, you might as well forget gas mileage, because it’s just not there anymore.

My Opel Omega B 2.0 DTI has a 70-liter-tank. I can reach -with carefully driving- up to 1100 km. The consumption is between 6.2 and 7.3 liters Diesel per 100 km.

My 1973 VW K 70 has a 52-liter-tank. It's consumption is around 11 liters per 100 km (98 octane "Super plus")

The prices were exploded in the last weeks. A liter of Diesel costs around 1,30 to 1,35 Euro, 98-octane-fuel up to 1,50 Euro.

My parents' Omega (2.5 litre V6 with automatic gearbox) that they are sharing with me is only getting a lousy 19.5 mpg average consumption (according to the LED display in the dashboard). I'm not looking foward to when it's my turn to fill it up! Gas prices in the UK are at an all-time high at over £1 ($2 and 1.38 Euros) a litre (of regular, non-premium unleaded petrol)!!!!!

EDIT: Actually it's not that bad, I just hadn't reset the LCD computer display, it's more like 22-23mpg on average (most of that is urban driving).

My sympathies. The British government puts a lot of tax on petrol, I suppose other European governments do as well.

Yes. But here they tax diesel less, so it is cheaper despite the fact that before taxes it is more expensive. So the number of diesel cars increases all the time. And now they start having big pollution problems due to particles in the atmosphere  And it won't improve since they will now tax depending on CO2 emissions: again in favor of diesel.

I`ve got a selection of cars but I use my 89` 3.6 Daimler as a daily driver(the one I use as my pic).

I drive constantly in London stop start traffic & she only averages 14mpg. on long motorway journeys this rises to around 27mpg.

When you drive a Jaguar it becomes a game trying to get the average mpg on the trip computer as high as possible, it does get depressing when your stuck in traffic for 10 minutes & watch the average mpg drop from 14.4 to 13.9!

It costs £80-90 to fill up, depending how low I let the tank go, however I only fill it up if I`m going on a long journey(100 miles & above), 90% of the time I do short journeys(under 10 miles) & tend to put £20 in at a time in an effort to keep the weight down & therefore make it as economical as possible as well as improving handling slightly.

Indeed with a big tank, not filling it completely may help to empty it less quickly

I did once hear that gasoline (or petrol in your case) was like 5 or 6 American dollars a gallon. Am I wrong?

Just filled up my tank today and for a full tank it's about $45-$50 average.

'95 Ford Crown Vic,4.6L/281 ci V-8,AT/OD....about 16-18 mpg in town,about 24-26 on the highway....'83 Chevy C-20 Pickup,5.7L/350 ci V-8/AT....8-10 mpg,might get 12-13 hwy if wind & weather is right.(Note: This truck has a 4:11 gear ratio,and NO overdrive.) My '72 Olds 98,7.5L/455 ci V-8/AT(now off road,under restoration)got about 11-13 in town,17-18 hwy.(This is a big "highway car",has a "tall"(2:73)rear axle,but also a lot of low end torque.)Subtract about 10% on mileage for all above if raining. Use 87 oct in Ford & Chevy,used 87 or 89 in Olds,depending on outside temperature.(89+ if really hot,or it 'clatters' some?)

My Montero gets about 14 mpg which is poor but I love driving it so much! It's without a doubt the most comfortable car for someone my size (6'6''). I know, I'm way too tall.
