I just went through the site to see the example of 2 door sedan, but I still quite not sure the definition of this term
Some said 2 doors with solid B-pillar make it a 2-door sedan? So these examples are also sedan?

No. That description is an overly simplistic definition that never made any sense. There were coupes in the pre-War era, and all of them had fixed, solid B-pillars. It wasn't until the introduction of the pillarless hardtop that there was any distinction, so that was around 1950 and lasted to about the mid-1980s. And even then then definition didn't work. In the 1950's the Ford Crown Victoria had a pillar, the regular Victoria was a hardtop. In the 1960's the General Motors midsize A-bodies offered a fixed pillar coupe and a hardtop coupe and in the Chevelle a 2-door sedan. In the 1970s, the GM A-bodies carried the Colonnade styling with coupes with posts. So as a definition, it doesn't work.

In the modern era (from around 1980 on), most car lines stopped offering multiple two-door body styles, and they basically labeled their two-door models as "coupes" and the 4-doors as "sedans" (some sporty cars did continue to offer notchbacks and liftbacks at the same time). So people have come to associate any two-door with the term "coupe". To add to the confusion, manufacturers started making fastback 4-doors and called them "coupes". And now there are SUV Coupes which are neither sedan nor coupe.

I generally go by what the manufacturer calls a two-door body. In the Impreza's case, they called it a "Impreza Coupe" in the US.

Antp there will be a large mass update I have detailes here: https://imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=344143#Comment3472632

We currently list as City Coupé but per the brochures the actual name is City-Coupé with a dash between.

Please hold off on changing because there was a slight misconception about the name change. We have a ton of 2003 listed as Fortwo.

I have posted the 03 and 04 brochures on that page above and you can clearly see that for 2003 the smart name was still city-coupé. 2004 was the first year smart officially changed the name.

It is a complicated case for us since many of the models listed as 2003 might me later ones
I guess we could keep the 2003 name for the "2003+" models though?

Complicated indeed.

early 2002
LHD no longer available in UK (from dealers)
Brabus range updated
New front styling (almond-shaped headlights replaced by peanut-shaped reflector optics lights), new heat-shield
Pulse engine spec. 62 bhp
Larger fuel tank
** Crossblade launched. 2000 units made

early 2003
Engine spec updated to 698cc engine
Chicken’s head C> badge on front panel
ESP replaces trust PLUS
ECU upgraded to be compatible with new engine
Additional features include Hill Start Assist (HSA), Electronic Brake
Distribution (EBD), On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port relocated, softer suspension, cruise control option (early cars required an extra wiring loom fitted).

Feb 2004
Automatic rear wiper when reversing (if front wipers on)
Variable intermittent speed wipers
Automatic door-locking at about 9mph
Rev counter & clock no longer standard on Passion
Hydrographic colours no longer availalbe (numeric blue, etc)
Speed sensitive power assisted steering added
City Coupe and City Cabrio now called Fortwo

I don’t mind going through them. If we agree on Fortwo name as a default we should list as 2004. If we decide City-Coupé then 2002 would be default for face lifted models.

Wikipedia seems to confirm this change and so do the printed brochures from smart (linked on the imcdb page above).

I believe to be consisent we should default at the oldest possibility, but unless it was produced for too little time compared to the other naming? For example, without the new logo (chicken head) visible we should default to 2002, maybe if the changed logo is visible we could default to fortwo as produced for 4 years vs. only one? So defaulting year as 2004.

I believe too correct naming is City-Coupé for pre-2004 ones, as visible in brochures and official material. Maybe also fortwo should be spelt in lowercase for the same reason?

Just placing this here since other members may miss my post from earlier. I researched, heavily, this AM the International bus face lift from 1989. The model was actually introduced as a 1990 model in early January/February of 1989.

This is confirmed by the vindecoder breakdown I was able to verify this morning.

Here is the page/chassis I am referring to.
https://imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=298528#Comment3487261

I don't think you can update these to 1990. I can add it to the list of projects I have in the pipeline. If you want to update the 1989s to 1990 that would be a great help. I just don't know how many different designations we have in the database.

If not now at least the admins and other members know to list newer entries as 1990 models vs 1989 as was previously thought.

I'm not sure to understand :figti:
Do I have to do a mass-update or not?
