I would chose this http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_117415-Willys-MB--Jeep-.html for censoring without regrets

I forgot about these huge tracts of lands I'd posted on this movie page for the title screen: http://imcdb.org/movie_181526-Esa.html#Comment1396439

I guess I could just crop away the part on the left then? :grin:

Are all of the possibilities ruled by US-laws? If there are European companies, we could (should!) stop this f*cking self-censorship.

But then we have to delete pics like http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_667056-Honda-Civic-EJ.html as for example in Germany illegal.

Ingo, it's not that we've broken any US laws (we haven't) Google is an American corporation that's decided it isn't going to support sites featuring certain content. They've simply removed their sponsorship of IMCDB. What you really mean is American "values" (or sensibilities) not laws, pornography is by no means illegal there (except possibly in a few states, I'm not sure)

And why would that image be illegal in Germany? I can't see any swastikas.

It's illegal to show bloody or other violent scenes like that. So for that reason the most horror- and splatter-movies, available here, are cutted and censored. Some years ago, when my wife wanted to have "From Dusk till Dawn" in the original, uncutted full length-version, my friend from Canada has purchased it there. No way to get it here.

For stuff, illegal over here (mostly Nazi-related items, but also all kind of weapons), eBay.com is restricted for us Germans. They check the IP of the computer, so it doesn't help, if I would sign in at eBay.com and not eBay.de

Btw: a question to the US-members here: are you allowed to check European eBay-sites with offering alcoholic beverages? This is not restricted ot forbidden for us (at least for us Germans) - but cigarettes, cigars and other tobacco-products are...

Naah, I indeed mean "US-law" in the meaning of "regulation", and not as "values", as these are used here in the meaning of a rule/regulation/law: stopping the advertising because of the "inappropriate" (cleary: "illegal according US-laws" pics, which are visible here.
So this Google-behaviour against IMCDb ist cleary
a) a punishment
b) censorship (plus the unpleasant side effect of the followng self-cesonsoring :chut: This self-censorsing was named in Germany in the Nazi-times, but also in the DDR "the scissors in the brain".
Terryfying, how hastily specific IMCDb-member became active in helping for that :halalala:

And yes, also in the USA it's meant as a law. Note, that the police-patrols at US-beaches in the summer are mainly made for these two items:
a) controlling, if there are topless girls
b) controlling, if anyone drinks alcohol in the public.
Unthinkable in Germany...

I always add the title screen. Removing the whole pic is not useful to me as it will make a hole in the continutity of my contributions.

I'll just crop it (I just felt like reporting it here). Not now though, I'm not on a computer.

Does it mean that for the new ad company IMCDb is also a website of "this kind"?

Current ad company is http://www.bidvertiser.com/
But I'll probably switch back to one with which we made a test in November (was lower than Google, but still not so bad).

Those ads are becoming annoying.

On my computer when I click a vehicle Chrome occasionally warns that 'planetsmilies.net' is a known provider of malware and doesn't recommend going through. For example this page:

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_440691-Cord-810-Sportsman-1936.html

On my phone when I go to the site it automatically redirects me to download some games every time I click a vehicle.

Planetsmilies is not linked to the ads, that's the image posted by Vilero in the comment.
Comments containing these dead smilies should be edited.
http://www.imcdb.org/yourcomments.php?search=planetsmilies.net&id=

About redirecting ads, Atom mentioned having the problem sometimes, but if you have it each time it is more annoying :ohwell:
Do you use an Android phone? If so I can disable ads on Android as I did previously with another advertiser.

I'll try to soon change back to the other good advertiser as said above.

I cleaned comments of 2nd one (useless for the site)
I guess that for the first one it should be pixelated then, though that it can hardly be considered as pornographic.
Americans are too prude :ohwell:

The message I got from Google was super vague, didn't include precise examples, and included these case examples :

...

- Sexual contents
-> concealed nudity
-> transparent clothes
-> obscene or provocative posture
-> focused on breasts, bottoms or genitals
...
And no guarantee that removing some (or even all) will solve anything, since I do not know which page is concerned!

And these aren't Google Ads anyway.
Even if according to Google stats, they showed 0.4% of "Adult" ads...

That's curious: I have the advertising on the other side, next to the last completed movies... Maybe depends by the screen resolution?

Err, you have noticed my specific quoting above the pic? Have you? :tongue:

I'm not complaining about pics like that, they are totally legal (and according my preferences :bogoss: ) - but I do complain, that this kind of advertises (as for online casinos, malware-shit, money loan offers, etc.) is very bad for the reputation of IMCDb and so for the reputation of the IMCDb-users -we all here-, too. We see ourselves as an international combo of more or less nerdic car- and also movie-freaks, who have the indeed serious aspiration to build up a serious database, which maybe even can be used as a kind of encyclopedia for vehicles in movies, even just for vehicles, too. We have so many specialists for specific items, that the total sum of our knowledge is good enough to be generally accepted as a kind of book of reference.

But this kind of chavy advertises, meant for a chavy underclass target audience, pulls down our reputation in a very bad way. I'm not the only one, who classifies and charcterizes a website (also print-magazines and TV-programmes) by the respectives advertises. When I see such chavy advertises, I put the homepage, where they are on, on the same level - and the members and users there, too!
You my call my habit prejudice, preposession, conceit or so, that's not wrong - but you always have to think about, that a lot of other people do think in the same way. So you, Antoine should be careful, that not too many people with a serious interest in our engagement get scared due this underclass-shit.

I get this on my Galaxy tablet, and it takes up half the screen. I would ask to block from Androids.
