Extra info vs model name
Published 30/04/2019 @ 18:46:48, By dhill_cb7
Hello everyone. I have noticed something quite a bit while trying to add chassis codes for certain Ford & GM vehicles.

I noticed that we always put 'coupe' or 'sport' in extra information for some vehicles and makes but not all of them.

Two examples we DO put them in the model are Honda Civic Coupe BUT Honda Accord 'Coupe' is in the extra information field.

Ford Explorer Sport & Chevrolet Tahoe Sport both have 'sport' in the extra information. Wouldn't it be easier instead of countless pages of Tahoes & Explorers to put the Sport in the model name?

I was looking to add the chassis for Sport models and realized I had to search through all of them.

Wouldn't it be the same as say Hybrid, PPV, or Limited? We put all those in the model name after Tahoe. I am sure there are more makes but the three that have come up are the Explorer Sport, Tahoe Sport & Honda Accord Coupe.

I only say this as we have soooo many pages and maybe adding that to the model name would alloy a little more structure and accessibility? Just a thought.

Mass change model info thread

Usually it depends if it was part of the model name (i.e. considered as a separated model in the line) or if it is important enough to be considered as a separated model on the site.
"Mass change model info thread" is for change requests so it is not really the right place for such discussion, you could have made a new thread for that
I'm splitting the messages to a new thread.

Sorry about that. I guess that would make sense. I presume then for the Accord, Explorer, & Tahoe it was not part of the model name but for the Civic it was.

Maybe the 1998-present accord coupe's should be separated out? I know that year the coupe became its own model. But we do label the 1991-1997 accords as wagons so maybe we should put coupe in the model name?

What do other members think?

to me, 1998+ Accord coupe is different enough from the sedan to have its own ID

wagon is kind of rare/unusual enough to keep the ID name

but it's only my opinion

but then, will 1989 and older hatchback want their own ID ?

People like me who know diddley-squat about Accords would get very confused if only some of them (1998+ or whatever) were listed as Coupe. We should do them all or none of them. Simple systems work best ....

Sure, but the way we name it is also related to how they were sold / advertised : if the "coupe" term was not so much used, we keep it as extra info

You can browse the brochures here. It's not exactly clear. If we separate Accord Coupe, does that mean we need to rename all the sedans from plain Accord to "Accord Sedan", and Civic sedans to "Civic Sedan"?

It would make it confusing I agree. It would help cut down the accords as we have over 4k. Just thought it would help navigate better  we can leave as such.

I'd agree that it would be worth adding Coupe to the name for ease of indexing. At least here the brochure describes the saloon simply as "Accord" whereas the Coupe is branded as Accord Coupe:
