You just contradicted yourself there, antp. You said the current Commodore does not replace the older Commodore, but then you said the replacement for the the older Commodore was the newer Commodore (which it is)

Oh wait, I read it again and I see what you mean now.

But no, I did not say the G8 replaces the GTO, I just said that they're both based on the same rebadged Holdens (diiferent generations mind you, but still the same car in general)

G8/Commodore has four doors, the GTO/Monaro had two.

As you said different generations, which mean that these car do not especially have much in common except the name...
The VZ (from which the GTO was derivated) had an Opel-based platform, where the current VE is full-Holden.

Well, yes that too. But it doesn't really count since it's just a body style change, and all the same components are shared other than that. It's like the difference between a two-door Accord and a four-door Accord, same car differetnt body styles, no major difference

@antp- Yes, well if two cars are of the same class, size, and name but are of a different generations and do not share many (or any) components, I still consider them basically the same car.
For instance, take the 1995 Taurus and the 1996 Taurus. Different generations sharing virtually nothing, but still the same class, size, name, and sold by the same company. After all, it is still a "Taurus" either way, right?

Or kinda like a 1969 four door Plymouth satelite and the 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner...Same but different....

Anyways, yeah the guys at work seem to not know what a Cavalier looks like. But it's all in fun...... I hope.....

I have gotten many many compliments on my Montero (more than I can count). Even the manager at the best local climbing/kayak/adventure store in my town loved it. It's been called a military vehicle, tank, and my favorite adjective rogue. Most people have never seen or heard of my car before so they are always fascinated. Not to mention when they see the altimeter/temperature/and compass and huge sunroof. I think my Montero has one of the most unique interiors for any SUV in the 90s. It even has a bar across the passenger dashboard so you can hold on for dear life. It also has a powerful magnetic light that can be charged in the back that will stick to any part of the exterior. No, nobody has ever made fun of my car, they respect me more for it.

The fact that I'm 6'6'' somehow makes it alright that I own a SUV, I would never want to be too small when it comes to the size of my vehicle.

Btw G-Mann, I know you meant the harder drugs but some of us partake in the purchase of lesser evils and like the neighborhood lowest life form (just saying). At the age of 23 I can't live with constant sobriety. Stealing on the other hand, send those bastards to hell.

 Yes, our cars have those things too, I think most do actually except they're usually on the roof above the door like they are on ours. Seldom have I ever used them though, except maybe when my grandmother's the one driving

You definitely have no idea what I'm talking about taxiguy (it's okay). No other older SUVs have this other than some versions of the Toyota Land Cruiser for the most part.

Because my car is rare there are no good pictures online at all (even on Ebay), here is what it looks like:

I see... doesn't that get in the way of the airbag?
06/08/2008 @ 17:30:41: 93_Montero: Have people ever critisized you because of your car?
Haha, airbags? What's an airbag? No there are none in my car, they were installed the following year (1994 version) on the driver's side only along with adding two more fold out seats in the trunk.
06/08/2008 @ 20:09:47: ingo: Have people ever critisized you because of your car?
Fucking airbags. Not really neccessary (a good safety belt is mostly enough) and even dangerous. So for people like me, who wear glasses, or if it smashes your head, when you have the head in front, for example for looking to the radio or into the glove-box.

A propos glove-box: it's an impudence, how small glove-boxes of cars with airbag are.
07/08/2008 @ 10:14:20: antp: Have people ever critisized you because of your car?
On the Peugeot 206 the glovebox is quite big compared to many cars, even some without airbag.

Hmmm... we have 8 cars but none of them have airbags as they are too old, so I guess I wouldn't know...

If our Corolla was one year newer it would have them, if our Voyager was one year newer it would have them, and if our Toyota Van was one year newer (and was a Previa) it would too
