Subject: Images to extract from Youtube videos

I make this topic in case of some people want to make captures but do not know from what they could do these
I do not have time for that, and I guess that it is the same for others, so if someone has time it would help as sometimes we have contributions send as a youtube link (from Ddey 65 for example  )
So if you do captures of such video, please post the images in the topic of the video rather than here.

I lost the plot, so perhaps that's a wrong thread to do that, but here are a few YouTube music videos nobody would probably ever watch containing some fine automobiles:

Karmen Stavec arrives in a Jaguar XJS - it is only shown right at the beginning so you don't have to listen to Slovene turbopop

It is good to post these here, yes.
But if you can make captures yourself, then it is better to make these and create a topic with these captures

I haven't got the faintest idea how to perform a YouTube capture, which is why I post them here.

For Youtube you can simply press the Print Screen key of your keyboard, paste in an image editing program, then cut the area of the image and save it.

PrtScr doesn't work for me for some reason - not to mention the quality would be abysmal.

That said - Natalia Imbruglia in a Citroen CX, a Volga, a 5er and a Zhiguli involved in a car chase, crash and other interesting action in this video:

Print Screen should work for youtube, as there is no overlay  And it won't change anything to quality (which is anyway low due to the video resolution)

I used the trick on the pics I got from various music videos. Check this part of the forum and you'll see what I mean.

Well, I've seen a 1975-79 Chevrolet pickup, and other vehicles in the music video for "Debonair," by Afghan Whigs:

I'll see if I can use print screen for them during the week.

Antp - in my system, PrtScr doesn't work at all. Dunno why.

Some image programs have a built-in capture function to which you can assign another shortcut

Well, whatever image program this library PC has, it isn't letting me find the image anymore than that PowerDVD crap did.

UPDATE: I think I know what I did wrong. I forgot to go to the paint program. I suppose now all I'm going to have to do is edit it and send it to imageshack. I can't guarantee I'll get everything else taken care of, but this should be a start.

 yes with Print Screen key it just puts image in memory: you have to past, crop and save it after that.

Well, it's a good thing I can do that with YouTube. Because I just tried it with another PC that has a DVD-Rom and Power DVD, and it didn't work... again. So don't be so hopeful for me to make scans from DVD's.

For DVDs, divx and so on, you have to use the built-in capture feature of the program. PowerDVD should have one somewhere in a menu or with a shortcut key, else you can use Media Player Classic or VLC to play the DVD/video.

As I promised, here's the music video for Weird Al Yankovic's song "I'll Sue Ya," which is way better than "White & Nerdy"(not that White & Nerdy is bad, mind you.). I've already got the CD/DVD, but I thought I'd post the YouTube link anyway.

Only two vehicles in this one; A 1959(?) Cadillac convertible, and a non-descript Japanese truck of some kind.

Enjoy.

Trying to erase a post.

Okay, I was just about to complain about how VLC does the same thing when you try to save the images and post them on a paint file, when I suddenly found that after also using the existing capture program... that IT WORKS!

My main complaint it that it forced me to convert all my video and audio files to the VLC program(I hope my iTunes weren't screwed up), and that the movie you're watching shows up on any other pages that you may be using.

Prepare for images from me in 2008!

The best way to extract a youtube image is to use a firefox plugin like UnPlug to download the .flv file and capture from that.

indeed, I was going to write the same thing. Personally I use plugin "Download Helper" (for Firefox) - I can download the Youtube video as .flv file, play it normally on Media Player Classic and make captures the normal way.

The quality of images captures from Youtube video is so poor I wouldn't advise people using youtube as a regular source for car images unless you can't find the cars you want to add anywhere else (DVD or download). That being said I've seen a few Adam and Joe sketches on Youtube featuring cars (they only released one DVD of their shows which was a "Best of" compilation), I've been thinking of adding these images, but the quality is so poor I'd feel a bit embarrassed.
