A few days ago, Buc84 mentioned that 1995 might have been the last year the Crown Victorias had the "CROWN VICTORIA" badge next to the front door, just above the side moulding. The 1996 and 1997 models did not. So I decided to do some research on this as I was not aware of this difference, and it appears that he is correct. Thanks to this new information, we will be able to narrow down the years even more. Now, I know that I will probably be the only one to remember this very well, and since I already put in the years for most of the Crown Victorias that are added to the site, I'll be on the lookout for this difference when it comes to the 1995-1997 models. I can make the changes myself to the Crown Victorias of that era already listed, but it might take me a bit.

Just as an FYI to antp, I'm for the most part done with the VIN id's on the CV's. I know that many of them don't have the VIN, and that is simply because I can't tell for sure the exact vin those cars might have. This is especially the case with taxis, as many times I don't know if they're ex-police cars.

I only have one problem with this: The fact is, many police departments tend to remove certain badges off of the cars to facilitate decal placement. So I'm sure that there's at least a couple of 1995's on this site without the "CROWN VICTORIA" badge and they would easily be confused as 1996's. My question is, is it worth it to list them as 1996-1997 just because they don't have the badge next to the door? I know I'm being really specific here, but as you may have noticed already, I really don't like to guess on things.

On that point, I do not know what would be the best...

Most police special Crown Vics have the Crown Victoria insignias replaced with "Police Interceptor" logos, but they're still considered Crown Vics. A couple of people told me that Crown Vic taxicabs are custom built with wider back doors, but I find that hard to believe. And yes, for the record, some taxicabs operate as undercover police cars in the US(not just Crown Vic either).

That would be the Long Wheel Base version of the Crown Victoria [P70]. Starting during the 2002 model year, Ford began to offer this longer version of the Crown Victoria to taxi companies exclusively, as they would better accomodate passengers. It's about 6 inches longer, and the difference is most visible with the back doors. There's quite a few posted on the site already. If you want to check them out, search for VIN number [P70].
