[done] Guys and Dolls (1955)
Published 06/01/2008 @ 01:08:24, By bh
These are roughly in order of appearance in the film, except for the three-stars I've extracted. I've tried to include as many shots as possible to give someone who knows something about 1950s automobiles the best shot at identifying them.

To what dimensions should they be reduced to to make them the appropriate size? Thanks.

The dimensions are fine, it is the 80 kb size limitation that these do not meet. (The recommended size for a widescreen DVD-quality picture should be around 40-50 KB.)

The free program http://www.xnview.com/ works well for resizing. I cannot download it to my current location, otherwise I would be able to explain it better. Basically, I open the .jpg file with XnView and then just enter the maximum limiting dimension (720 pixels width for widescreen or 500 pixels height for standard 4:3 aspect ratio) and save the resized picture as the one I contribute. I do not know all of the technical details of what XnView does, but it somehow compresses the image so that the file size is much smaller. As an added benefit when the dimensions get smaller, the appearance of some images seems to improve.

I can try to provide more details tonight from where I have the program downloaded.

bh, Also the file format for uploading must be JPEG and not PNG. Luckily XnView also allows you to save .png as .jpg

So anyway, to resize you just open the file with XnView. Then under the "Image" tab, select "Resize", then enter the max width or height. I did not change any settings on mine and I left "Keep ratio" checked so the aspect ratio would not be distorted. I imagine the part where it says "Resample/Lanczos" is where the compression takes place. There are other options in the drop-down menu there, but I just left it as is.

I'll do these ones so you don't have to deal with the imageshack hassle again, but for next time if you could resize before contributing, it would save work and your pictures would be posted sooner.

I skipped over some of the "too background"/partially visible vehicles and multiple views of same vehicles. If you wish to post these as comments, you are more than welcome to...

Thanks for all your help.

I had put up the multiple views so it would be easier to identify the cars, but people don't seem to be having trouble.
