Hyundai and KIA both have notoriously weak automatic transmissions, which I must have experienced in the Accent. I think only Chrysler has worse automatics.

In October, when I went by plane for three days to Scotland, where my wife stayed for a week on vacations, I had a Skoda Rapid as rental car.
A good car, very good quality. Not, that I would like to have such a car, but I was very satified with it.

God I can't stand rental car companies. My Passat is in rehab and I am currently renting a car for most of this week. Ordered an "Intermediate" at a popular rental company (hint: they picked me up), which should be a car the size of a Honda Civic. Was offered two choices a Nissan Note (which would be a downgrade, no thanks!) or a Kia Soul, which according to rental car company land is a "Standard" size (Standards are typically the size of a Toyota Camry). I took the Soul (more like Soul-less). What an uncomfortable, under-powered, ugly shitbox.
Rental car companies have different standards than the rest of us when it comes to size and classifications. When I tried to rent that Focus Station Wagon, they also offered a Ford Taurus and classified it as a
Large car! The Crown Vic was a "luxury car." Now I like the Crown Vic, and I know that back in the day it was a marque of prestige, but those days are long gone, even though they had some upper scale models at the time.

Isn't rather the opposite, the US that has bigger standards than the rest of the world?
(though that rental companies should then accommodate to local trends)

A couple weeks ago my Dad and I rented a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab from U-Haul to help move some stuff over to our new house. I had to drive it since he broke his foot a few days before. The 5.3 liter V8 in it was really powerful and the handling was really good, had a slightly better turning radius then my TL since it is 17 years newer.

Reserved an SUV this week, they offered a Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. Was hoping for something a little bigger to haul stuff. I always wanted to drive an Italian car, but this was not what I meant. Needs more hamsters to get it running.

Oh, we did. Those of us who weren't born in the late-1990's know what a big car is. Check out this ad for rental cars:

To make matters worse, my 16-year-old Toyota Camry is actually bigger than the Chevy Impalas of the 21st Century.

Rental cars I've driven:
Nissan Altima (California/Nevada, USA)
VW Golf Mk7 (Valencia, Spain)
Fiat Grande Punto (Lithuania)

Drove a terrible Volkswagen Golf 7 with DSG.
Broke my dashcam cable because the 12 Volt socket was too far away and my cable was too short.
The DSG was the only thing that satisfied me. This black plastic is ugly, the tyre pressure sensor gave false warnings and this is not good enough for a car that starts at 18,000 Euro.

I'm digging up this thread, I though it was newer than this (or was there a second one on that subject?)
Back from one week in Croatia, where I drove a SEAT León for a week (on more than 1000 km).
It was nice, a little big as we asked for the category below.
The only other downside was the turbodiesel, I prefer gasoline (or better, hybrid like the Yaris I drive currently).

Dad and I had the misfortune of being given a Toyota Roomy for our Hokkaido excursion... it was a massive step down from the Yaris I drove a few weeks prior in an unrelated trip... Much less the Subaru Impreza hatchback that we drove the last time we went to Hokkaido.
