Peugeot 505 American-type taxi!
The Peugeot 505 had a discreet but honourable career in the USA. One of its best transatlantic performances is certainly having been used in its Diesel version, as a taxi in the cities of New York and Los Angeles.

A Short Career!
The success of the 505 turbo-diesel taxis would not, alas, be very long-lived. In 1983 the anti-pollution legislation hardens and the sale of diesel vehicles conforming to the standards imposed becomes almost impossible. Only petrol (gasoline) versions of the 505 range remained available. And the cabbies of NY and LA reverted to their old habits in favouring, for example, Chevrolet Caprices. But this is not the end of the 505's career as a taxi!
(The rest of the text mostly concerns the use of the 505 as a taxi in Paris.)
Sorry I didn't provide a translation the first time, taxiguy!

There is one US 505 Taxi in the database(http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_86779-Peugeot-505-1981.html).
You can see one in the far background in Scarface as well.
