I'm just curious about everyone's opinions on The Dark Knight. I'm not sure if everyone has seen it but I think it's worth it. I like the use of Chicago as Gotham (I've spent a large part of my life visiting my Dad there, I'm going again later this month). Although I love how murky and dreary Gotham is in the original 1989 version. I guess this is trying to be more like a real city.

Heath Ledger's acting was amazing, but what was with his insane fascination with explosives? I think I liked Jack Nicholson using laughing gas more as his choice of weapon. Remember when that reporter in the original can't stop laughing and just keels over? I think both movies are very different but I liked each one a great deal.

My favorite Christian Bale movie is American Psycho (by far), his acting in this movie was not very elaborate and his voice as Batman was ridiculously deep (although I know he had to disguise his voice).

The use of vehicles wasn't really that involved (they didn't use too many strange or rare cars not counting the Lambo and Tumbler/bike). I did like the old Suburban in the opening scene (good vehicle for bad guys, too bad is was seen VERY shortly).

Well, I haven't seen the original but I did see this one. I thought it was pretty good, maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10 on the rating scale. I didn't however think it was "amazing" like everyone else apperantly does, especially rottentomatoes.com, which has something like a 95% rating. I too, liked that it was in Chicago, however I think that wasn't exactly a good thing to do on their part. I didn't know what city it was filmed in before I saw it, but just a few minutes into the movie I instantly recognized the city, as I am quite well versed in my skyscrapers. I thought since Gotham City is a fictional place, they would use a fictional skyline, or a mix of buildings from different real cities, which they often do in such movies. Anoter dead giveaway to the fact it was Chicago was the frequent apperence of their black-bumpered yellow taxis (which by the way need to be added to the movie page on IMCDb, as I did not see a listing for any 1995 Crown Victorias, which is what the cabs were) but of course, I am probably the only person in the world who noticed this as I can be quite nitpicky like that

I was also quite off-put by the destruction of a Saturn and a Buick by that hideous monstrosity they call the "Tumbler". Perfectly good cars crushed for no reason as the Tumbler busted into the parking garage :oh:
Also if I am correct I think they blew up a nice Pontiac Bonneville, which also made me quite upset :heink:

Another car moment I did like was when an unmarked Crown Vic squealed to a movie-style stop in front of the bank being robbed. It looked so great with it's blacked out trim, black paint job and fleet wheels, I remember thinking when I saw it "How delightfully bad-ass" It was a nice reminder of the core reason why I love those big beauties in the first place

Yeah, I agree that the destruction of the Saturn and Buick was uncalled for. I don't think Batman was thinking about the owners of those cars

Taxiguy, you should definitely put the 1989 Batman on your must see list. One of my favorite scenes (that frightened me when I was younger) is when the news anchorwoman on the TV screen starts laughing hysterically and they show her twisted face. Michael Keaton as Batman can't be beat (although he's not the best Bruce Wayne in my opinion).

Plus, you don't have the stupid Tumbler/bike but the classic batmobile! Also, I like the actor that plays Alfred much more than the character of Michael Caine. Just because Caine is too famous and it's better to have a lesser known older actor to play Alfred. Ahhh, I could talk about this movie forever. Another thing I liked was Jack Nicholson's men with the purple and green cars and of course the heavy set guy that carries the boom box around. You have to check it out!

What city was the old one filmed in? Were there any good cars in it? (i.e. 1980s taxis, police cars, and just 1980s cars in genral)

The 1989 batman was filmed in the UK, mainly on closed sets.

Oh, well that's no fun :ohwell:

I know that you're younger but I can't believe you haven't seen this movie. The closed sets don't really matter or the fact it was filmed in the UK. It's an amazing movie that you will remember for a long time. The parade scene with the balloons is impossible to forget. As for cars they're aren't that many obscure models but check the page for it if you want. Oh yeah, it won an Oscar for best sets and art direction (something The Dark Knight would never win).

I know everybody has different tastes, and I respect them, but Taxiguy, of all the cars that got wrecked, you're complaining about the Saturn and the Buick?
When they showed Bruce driving along in his Murcielago, I thought "why doesn't he have a Reventon?" Then they showed the guy in the truck anxiously waiting at the cross street "oh, because they're going to wreck it. Damn." That nice new Ram got all bent up too.
Lamborghini had press shots of a car in the same shade of gray when they were launching the LP640, maybe the car they squished was a pre-production model they were going to crush anyway. I hope

Nobody likes the Tumbler? I think it's the best looking Batmobile yet. I mean, functionally, it needs a front bumper, and the bike is impossible. But they look really cool!

Oh, well that's no fun :ohwell:

I remember you saying in some other thread that you were a fan of architecture as well, I think the fabulous buildings more then make up for the lack of cars.
Uh, probably. It's been a very long time since I've seen it, I do recall the great cathedral at the end though.

I didn't remember any others that got destroyed to tell the truth.

So you're saying they wrecked a Lambo? That sounds like a really, really epensive thing to do.

Lambo donated 3 cars, they were going to let them destroy 2, but only destroyed 1
14/08/2008 @ 09:01:22: taxiguy: The Dark Knight
I really don't remember seeing any in the movie... what scene(s) were they used in?
14/08/2008 @ 09:02:37: marioman3138: The Dark Knight
Only one was in the movie I think, need to ask someone whos seen it.
14/08/2008 @ 09:06:50: taxiguy: The Dark Knight
you haven't seen it?? you must go, it is quite good.
14/08/2008 @ 09:08:20: marioman3138: The Dark Knight
I will see it soon. I really want to!

There was a thread about that, but some (like me) prefer when they destroy new cars still in production rather than old cars which are not made anymore
15/08/2008 @ 03:21:31: BlackIce_GTS: The Dark Knight
Well, yes; I'd rather they smash a Murcielago then a Countach LP400, but it's still bad. I can't think of a better way to do that scene though.

Taxiguy: When The Joker says he'll blow up a hospital if someone doesn't kill the accountant (the guy on the news who says he's going to give away Batman's identity, don't remember his name), Bruce runs out to do... something. He comes up behind the convoy Gordon is in at a stop light, and sees the guy in the Ram waiting to ra... er, T-bone Gordon, so he drives in between them.
15/08/2008 @ 06:52:59: taxiguy: The Dark Knight
I kind of remember that now. Well, I'm not going to get upset over a truck, in fact good riddance!
