We do have that Trabi in the database, because it appears in Operation Filmmaker, a documentary about an Iraqi film student who was interviewed on MTV shortly after the invasion. One of the producers of Everything is Illuminated saw the interview and offered him a position as an intern on the production.

Hmm, are you sure, that both pics are showing the same car? They are looking very similar, but their colours are not the same. I don't know the exacts names of them, but both colours are original ones.

I didn't even look at the photo Vax posted, because I was sure that he had to be talking about the Trabant. But it's entirely possible that the producers of Everything is Illuminated used two different cars to represent the same one (or had one in reserve), because if a car breaks down during filming you can't afford to have the entire cast and crew hanging around waiting for it to be fixed.

I don't know if they used two cars or if the pics were just taken with diffent lights, but anyways, thanks for the answer!
