Jaguar nomenclature
Published 18/09/2010 @ 22:31:45, By G-MANN
I've always been have Jaguar XJ's indentified properly, to have them listed as XJ6 or XJ12. But I wonder with the XJ40, is Sovereign actually a model name rather than a trim level ie. Jaguar Sovereign rather than Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign. Should a Jaguar only be called an XJ6 if has the badge on the back or could it eg. Jaguar XJ Executive (X300)?

Today at Goodwood Revival I saw a Series I, Series II and (for the first time in real life) XJ40 XJ12.

Notice the Series I XJ12 has a vertical rectangular "V" badge in the middle of the grille, just the Series II XJ12 (which I didn't get a picture of).

The XJ40 XJ12 has black grille vanes, black door window trim, a silver paint stripe down the side and a gold badge on the grille.
