I'm just wondering if the cars listed as "de Ville" should be renamed as "DeVille". I've noticed that although they are the same car, they are being categorized seperately under the make/model list.

I think it is part of the plan to merge them. There was a start of reorganization of the Cadillac:

See with G-MANN & somename what is the status of that, I prefer let them handle that as they started it

Well, my proposal (and keep in mind I'm just making suggestions) was that Coupe de Ville be kept as it is the grammatically correct term. The problem there is that most people spell it as Coupe DeVille. Since Antp confirmed that Sedan de Ville is gibberish in French, I'm inclined to keep it as Sedan DeVille in order to avoid multiple spellings of the same model.

Now I realize some will take an issue spelling it one way for the coupes and another way for the sedans and I'm certainly flexible on the issue. But whatever is decided, I do insist that it be consistent and definitive. No more of this half a dozen different interpretations of the same name.

I think we could list the coupé as Coupe DeVille, even if it is taken from a French word, if Cadillac used it in that way it is fine for me.

What was the official Cadillac way of spelling of these models? Was there ever a change from de Ville to DeVille or vice-versa? Or does it just depend one which year of brochure you look at? Otherwise I think we should keep one spelling for each model, which ever one it is.
24/06/2012 @ 23:02:44: somename: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
Cadillac's official spelling went back and forth from year to year, and in some cases on the same page of a brochure; I don't think we should do the same. Night_cub went through the brochures and claims 1968 as the year the brochures started to spell it as one word, but it's not very consistent. Personally I'm fine one or the other, but I don't think the name should alternate between de Ville and DeVille on the basis of what might very well be a typo.

Just had a glance myself though some brochures here: http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Cadillac/dirindex.html

They often seem to say "Coupe de Ville" or "Coupe deVille", using a small 'd'. Sometimes it's "De Ville" with a big 'D', this seems to be mostly in the 1980s brochures. But in some brochures, it uses "DeVille" to emcompass the Sedan and Coupe models eg. "When you choose a DeVille, you can have either have the Coupe de Ville or the Sedan de Ville".

If you look through there's no real consistency, it changes between Coupe/Sedan deVille and Coupe/Sedan de Ville every other year.

Sometimes they even use both ways on the same page. On page 8 of this 1977 brochure, in the text it says "Coupe deVille" but the title at the bottom seems to say "Coupe de Ville":

Also, with DeVille Convertibles, should "Covertible" be part of the model name or go in the extra info? I think keeping it in the model name field with set them apart better.
25/06/2012 @ 05:10:44: somename: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
So what do you think? Re-name them all as deVille one word, starting with a lower case d? I have no problems with that.

Going with deVille Convertible in the model name makes sense especially in order to keep it separate from the model labeled simply deVille later on in the 90s.
25/06/2012 @ 11:23:56: antp: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
I do not like much "deVille", is looks strange and previously I remember that we renamed all the "deVille" to "DeVille" because someone else (MrCadillac?) told us it was not correct
"DeVille" seemed the better choice to me, but if you think that "deVille" fits better (e.g. if it is more used than the other variants) I have no problem.

The "Convertible" in model name should be used if the car was named that way in the commercial documents. If they didn't use the name "DeVille Convertible" in that way then we should just put it as extra info.
25/06/2012 @ 21:30:38: G-MANN: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
They do seem to call it the DeVille Convertible in the brochures (just look through the ones here http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Cadillac/dirindex.html

There was the Coupe de Ville, the Sedan de Ville and the DeVille Convertible, which was made from 1964 to 1970. I don't think there was any model just called DeVille until the 1994-1999 one.
26/06/2012 @ 04:53:39: somename: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
So DeVille one word with a capital D for all variants? I think that's the way most people spell it now.
02/07/2012 @ 15:28:50: G-MANN: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
I think that would probably be OK. Even though I have this nagging feeling that maybe it should be a small d but as antp says it can look a bit strange.

So are you going to change this, antp? (have all the models spelled the same way)
03/07/2012 @ 10:01:38: antp: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
I can do that, yes. So I simply rename all "* de Ville" to "* DeVille"?
03/07/2012 @ 14:18:07: G-MANN: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
Well, if no one has any objections...
03/07/2012 @ 15:11:50: antp: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
Done.
03/07/2012 @ 17:50:06: G-MANN: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
While looking at the list of Sedan DeVilles I noticed there's still a bunch of them (over 50) with deVille spelt with a lower case d. There's also a lot of Coupe DeVilles that are like this as well.

And there's still quite a few DeVilles where the v is lower case (should upper case - "DeVille")

Can you fix this? (rather than us doing each one manually?) Don't forget to include the Stretched Limousines and Convertibles.
03/07/2012 @ 18:19:00: antp: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
Should be fine now (except maybe some models in low quantities, but I fixed the main ones)
03/07/2012 @ 18:25:22: G-MANN: Cadillac Sedan/Coupe "de Ville" vs. "DeVille"
Thanks, much quicker than us doing it one by one  Only 2 DeVille Concours and a DeVille Funeral Coach were missed, I've fixed them.
