I thought I'd better start this, as it was sort of my idea ... some of us answered this elsewhere: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_137052-Citroen-LN-1976.html but let's hear on what car (or whatever) you learned to drive, and - if different - in what you passed your test.

I learned to drive with my father in 1998-1999 using the Peugeot 205 of my mother:
http://www.antp.be/pic/mp_peugeot205.jpg
(the car being a 1997 model, one of the last ones)
I passed the test on that car too, with the examiner as passenger, and my father on the rear seat.
No ABS, no assisted direction (but not much a problem as the car is light - around 800-900 kg), 75hp 1.4 gasoline engine.

I do not know on which car my father learned (he probably told me though), but I know that my mother learned to drive with the Citroën ID (or DSuper) that my father had as first (or second) car, quite a big car (no assisted direction either, but much heavier!).

Here in Spain you dont learn with your own car, you learn and pass the test with the school driving car, in my case an Audi A4, ( http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_5872-Audi-A4-Typ-8E-2001.html ) maybe too big to learn, but i prefered it as then i was going to drive a car as big as the Audi, then i did the test with it too and everything went perfectly

In Belgium you have the choice: learn with someone else on any car ("filière libre") or with a monitor and a car from a school ("auto-école").
09/11/2007 @ 23:20:02: CarChasesFanatic: What car/s did you learn on?
but what about the "writen test" ??
09/11/2007 @ 23:48:30: antp: What car/s did you learn on?
It is better to not make it in a car
This test is done in an "official" building, not at a driving school. Same for the first part of the test, where you have to park the car in areas delimited by poles.
Both "filière libre" and "auto-école" candidates pass the tests at that place.

Here firstly you go to the driving school (autoescuela in spanish) and you study and learn so you can later do the test, if you pass the test you go to the car lessons, and then to the final exam/test which can perfectly be along your city/motorway or small towns near your city.

Let's see, the school had a late nineties Ford Taurus (98?). My family at the time had a 1985 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. I used it for my driver's test. I scored an 82, and passing was 76, so I guess that means watch out!

I've since learned to respect my own automobile, and that helps other drivers as well. Sign of age.

I learned on my Acura. It was perfect to start out with. Good handling, accceleration, etc. Handling is one of the reasons why I decided to buy it.

My first driving experience was in my uncle's Ford escort 1100 (mk.I).
My first (owned) car (if you count three-wheelers.?) was this Reliant Regal supervan (seen here with my bike at the time, Norton Commando 750 fastback)

I didn't have this regal for long (couldn't get along with it.!) so was soon changed for a Reliant Robin 850 (driven on my Full motorcycle licence)
My first 'real' car (four wheels.!) was a Vauxhall Viva (seen here behind my dad's Fiat 126.!!)

12/11/2007 @ 00:45:28: wickey: What car/s did you learn on?
I learned and passed the exam in the car belonging to the school (only possibility here) - Skoda Fabia.
12/11/2007 @ 18:50:45: Raul1983: What car/s did you learn on?
My first driving experience was when I drove my fathers Ford Granada 2,0L Ghia (my.83-84). Great car! Wood dash, comfortable seats and lots of luxury goods. I drove circles in a big parking lot untill everyone inside started to feel sick. I think I was 15 years old back then.

I passed the driving test in a Toyota Avensis (my.2000) which belonged to the school. I hated that car. The smell of cheap plastic inside and the dull exterior colour (dark green).

By the way my father passed his test in a Toyota Celica! It was driving instructors personal car. Not many of those cars existed in 1970's Finland.

dull exterior colour (dark green).

But that's my favorite color for a car :boidleau: (and here is a new poll idea...)

14/11/2007 @ 19:38:04: twingoman: What car/s did you learn on?
I learnt to drive, and passed my test, in 1993/94, in a 1992 Fiat Tipo diesel. Never saw another one at the time being used as a driving school car, and I've never driven another Tipo since.
15/11/2007 @ 00:25:53: wrenchhead: What car/s did you learn on?
 We were poor and all I could afford was a 40 year old car - cost a huge $45. You will be happy to know that I have progressed - I now have a 28 year old MG
