Subject: The "Fifty-Fifty" thread

Many of our unknowns have been sitting in the section for the simple reason that the model is identified, but we have a fifty-fifty chance of getting it right because there is a rebadge of the car. For this reason, I've posted this thread, for defaulting such vehicles.

So let's start - I'd make this a Dodge, for instance: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_409420.html

Indeed, like some identified that are missed, some are waiting for someone to confirm, but often it is impossible to decide.
So for these we can add a (by default) as extra info as previously suggested, to indicate that the model was arbitrarily decided between several possibilities.

But do not report those that were "identified" only a few days ago. This one is only a few weeks old, maybe better to focus on those buried deeper in the unknowns.

I guess you can make this a Dodge, 1995-98: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_700733-Neon.html

The problem is that not all admins have agreed on using default naming in the past. I agree that it's useful so long as it's clear a name is a default so maybe the idea is needing to be revisited.

For me, the 'impossible to discern which version' vehicles (along with the impossible to identify properly due to poor quality images) distract us from the unknowns that someone new might recognise or someone old will find some information on.

The only alternative is that we can put up more general platform such as GM based G-Series or Ford E-Series until more detail can be defined. Now, for the Mopar cars, obviously, we can't use that word for the generic Chrysler platform :ohwell:

By default in the extra info field as said by antp has my vote (transformed into a checkbox in NextGen?): for now, without any mention of that kind, it's almost impossible to distinguish quickly vehicles set that way from really identified models.
Once noted that way, contributors knowing / having just learnt the very small differences between clones (if any) will see more easily which vehicles could need this information...

(transformed into a checkbox in NextGen?)

Yes, I do not know yet how/what, but as long as we put it in a standardized way it is easy to track later if we need to change/convert the system.
So I used "(by default)", I strongly suggest to do the same in such cases.

Suburban by default, I'd say: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=8294
16/04/2016 @ 21:12:51: Baube: The "Fifty-Fifty" thread
There is more Tahoe than Suburban

With or without brackets? The first attempt already create a variation of the proposed standard
24/04/2016 @ 22:12:42: antp: The "Fifty-Fifty" thread
I'd put the brackets to avoid that mistaken as something else (as usually the "by something" indicates a body maker, tuner, or things like that.
In the Dodge link you posted, I don't know why "by default" was added since it is a Dodge  Or is Gamer's comment wrong?

Yes, both kinds could have painted sections on the bumper:

I guess you could make this a Volaré per my and rjluna's comment? http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_237768.html
26/04/2016 @ 17:35:10: antp: The "Fifty-Fifty" thread
From the discussion I don't see why one rather than the other? Or else we just pick one and add "(by default)".
26/04/2016 @ 17:37:52: night cub: The "Fifty-Fifty" thread
I tried adding "by default" to an entry last week on a Dodge Colt/Plymouth Champ. Another admin deleted the phrase. You can't win.

Because of the location of the trim. Or should we wait until someone confirms that's where the trim went?
26/04/2016 @ 18:22:20: night cub: The "Fifty-Fifty" thread
That one has no trim, which is how both the base models for the Aspen and Volare came.
26/04/2016 @ 18:38:27: Gamer: The "Fifty-Fifty" thread
I was leaning more towards Volaré anyways, so if there is truly no other way to identify it, let's make it that.

I guess not all admins check the forum. :ohwell:

Shall we delete this?

Chevrolet by default:
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_661444.html

I think I'd make this one a Plymouth: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_796836.html

And I think this one is more likely a Mercury for some reason: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_779280-1996.html
