For me it depends on the make, not the parent corporation. Maybe the title should be "Which American motor corporation is the best?" If we're just talking about the corporations in general rather than which brands I like most, I don't have any real preference, I've never worked for any of them. They're all monolithic corporations, their main purpose is simply to make money, and they've all done bad things in the past. GM closed down it's factories in Flint, Michigan so they could build cars in other countries at a cheaper cost (they weren't even in financial difficulty at the time), which ruined the local economy in Flint (see Michael Moore's Roger & Me) and Ford once had a policy of paying compensation settlements to the victims of crashes their cars were involved in instead of fixing the design flaws that were responsible for the casualties, because it was cheaper. That was just evil.

DaimlerChrysler does not exist anymore.
They splitted in Daimler AG and Chrysler Holding LLC.

Ford once had a policy of paying compensation settlements to the victims of crashes their cars were involved in instead of fixing the design flaws that were responsible for the casualties, because it was cheaper. That was just evil.

That reminds me a movie

I'd say the worst American auto maker now is Ford. Although each one is losing money I'd prefer GM because not as many people complain about them. Chrysler in the past had a poor reputation, but since the new 300 and 300C people liked Chrysler a but more. Here's a site someone made that hates his Chrysler 300M so much he made a website about it. http://mychryslersucks.com/

Yes, Fight Club. But Ford actually did this in real life with the Pinto, until they were found out.

I picked Ford, they may not be the best car company (and I’m not a Ford fan either) but at least they make one hell of a Full-Size Luxury SUV.

I didn't pick Chrysler because i've always felt their interiors were really cheap looking and couldn't think of a single one i'd like to own. I also couldn't think of a GM car I'd actually like to own eitehr, so I didn't pick them. That left Ford. I couldn't think of a Ford I'd like to own (except maybe a Mustang Vert), but i like their Lincoln line - like the MKZ vs the Fuzion, and I really like the look of the MKX over the Edge.

I think the choice with me is pretty obvious. But as I was discussing with Neptune once, Ford really needs to start putting out better-looking cars out there, especially with the 500 (which is being re-badged as the Taurus) and with the Ranger, E-Series, and to a lesser degree, the Crown Victoria (although I still love that design.) Where Ford fails with sedans and other compact cars, they make up for with trucks. Their Super-Duty line is very dependable, and have proven to be durable (my dad is an electrician, so I've seen their performance first-hand). And the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor is a very good car, probably the best and definitely the most popular police car in the country. That's just my two cents.

Another reason why I do not like Fords, and Chevy sometimes does that too. Not redesigning their cars every few years. :heink: These are the cars I know of that have been the same for too long.

-Chevy/Gmc pickup 1988-1999
-Ford F Super Duty 1999-present
-Citroen 2CV 1949-1990
-Ford Econoline 1992-present
-Chevy Express/GMC Savana 1996-present
-Ford Crown Victoria 1998-present
-Ford Ranger 1993-present
-Nissan pickup 1987-1997
-Chevy Blazer 1994-2005
-Chevy S10 1994-2004

Correct me if I'm wrong with anything on the list. I do remember that discussion you mentioned. In Live Free or Die Hard right?

Yes, that was the discussion. In the case of the F-Super Duty and the Ford Crown Victoria, I don't really mind, but all of the other ones do need a re-design. But think about it, would it be smart to keep on redesigning vehicles like the E-Series and the Express/Savana when they're mostly sold to businesses who could otherwise care less what their trucks look like? If GM and Ford want to appeal more to the general public, they need to make more appealling cars and should change the design at least every 5 yrs.

You have a point there. Most of them are for commercial use and most people don't care about their styling, but eventually they will look old.

Yes, that's true. By the way, from what I heard, Ford will cease to produce the Panther platform (Crown Vic, Grand Marquis) by 2009, so there's your answer for that. I hope that that won't leave us stuck with only the Charger and the Impala for police use.

Thank God, It's about time. Btw did you notice that the 1992 Grand Marquis windows looks like the current Crown Victorias. Gotta go now.

Yes, that design has been around for a long time and the Grand Marquis overall has not changed since 1992. I just hope that Ford can cough up another good Police car.

-Citroen 2CV 1949-1990

They tried to restyle it / modify it, cf the Citroën Dyane. But the old 2CV sold better. While it sells well and work well, why replace it? It is like the Renault 4 or VW Beetle.
They restyle/replace cars because people will always new things. But while the old one sells well I guess that they have no reason to replace it.

Yes, that is quite right, Ford did do that, and it was wrong of Ford to do so, but Ford was not the only Company to money before people’s lives. So Ford is not alone in that accusation.

I have a feeling the Ford Ranger will be discontinued completely, rather than get a full-redesign (I could be wrong, but that’s just my take on it)

I don't think that'll happen. Anyways I think people want smaller trucks since large ones use up a lot of gas.

I agree. Just like with the E-series/Savana/Express, a lot of businesses and Construction companies still use the Ranger, although I have noticed that they aren't as popular as before.
