Series vehicle listing and other heavy pages

Some series page become very heavy. I think mostly to "Chips" series which is growing fast and has more than 300 vehicles for only 18 episodes currently listed!
For movies the biggest was with "The Junkman", which had still a reasonnable size with about 100 vehicles.
For some series a split on the seasons would be good, with one page per season, since there is no link between them (in the series "24" for example).
But for most of the seasons it is anoying because same vehicle can be used across episodes and seasons. And it does not solve the "Chips" problem.
We could also put the background vehicles on a second page. That would be a solution for the "too many background vehicles" problem, by the way: the important vehicles of the movie would be displayed on a separate page than the vehicle that do not play any role.
But for "Chips" there are already nearly 147 non-background vehicles...

For series, I will repeat my suggestion here.
list the movie name as: name (year, episode)
List IMDB number the same for all.
We would end up with one page per episode. It may result in some cars being listed twice but on different pages (same car in different episodes) but that would probably be OK or a reference could be placed in the episode comments to refer to the other page.
That should separate the large pages that result from series and should be no problem for search. Also, I don't think it would require modification of the site.

Actually for some series IMDB has a number for each episode, e.g.:
http://french.imdb.com/title/tt0534498/
http://french.imdb.com/title/tt0534549/
http://french.imdb.com/title/tt0534447/
so we could use that for very heavy series like "Chips" (could be done automatically, do not worry Stronghold, you won't have to move 300 cars :D)
The only problem is for cars seen in many episodes. But as you said we could list them in in each episode.

If different IMDB numbers are available that would be great. We would probably still have to make a difference in the title similar to what I suggested to get each episode on its own page.
I don't think listing the same car in different episodes should be a big problem. The site usually already has many pics of similar cars and there shouldn't be that many of them.

I think the solution you provided is probally the best. I had noticed too that some pages becomes really big and take a long time to load, but what about the 'soon to be added' series Knight Rider, it probally will have a lot of cars too, so it might be a good idea to list it a episode at a time.
How ever the Pontiac Firebird (Kitt) will be listed over and over again in each episode, what is the use of that??
Can't we just list all vehicles for 1 series under 1 name, but set a max of images for a page, so you have to go through to page 2? That way, you will keep 1 main entry for the series and can maintain the alphabetic listing of vehicles (so vehicles won't be added multiple times)

Maybe that for cars shared across the whole series (Kitt, Police cars, ...) we could keep them on the main series page. And only use episode pages for the other cars?
Using pages like for general vehicles listing is an idea too. Currently vehicle listing is splitted in pages of 30 vehicles. We could split on 60 vehicles for movies, for example.

So we have to decide now... (well, we do not have many choices actually).
We can put three pages, one for 1-star, one for 2-star and one for 3/4/5-star, with all vehicles stored as being for the same "movie", but three pages generated by the site like it does for list of all vehicles of a make.
And use this solution for all series/movies that have more than N cars. I think that it will be the best solution for the moment. I'll try to take time to program that on friday or saturday.
Another solution would be automatically split pages for seasons (i.e. like above but cut on season number rather than on star number). This solution will be nice for series like "24" where each season is not linked with previous one, so all cars are different.
Maybe that for this series we will have to use both solution 1 and 2 in the end...
Last solution was one "movie" for each episode, but it is probably not very good when there are lots of episode. Could be the best if there were few episode, with lots of different cars in each.
For Chips there are cars that appear in lots of episode, sometimes different car but same model, so it is complicated. Or it requires to re-add the vehicle on each episode if they are different. And keep the main common vehicles (that are visible in all episodes) on a separated page (the current page of the series).
So it is either solution 1 (+2 in the future), or solution 3.
"1" requires few changes on the site but can be reused for other series/movies.
"3" requires that I move (by SQL) the car of each episode, and then that stronghold puts back on the site most of the cars that are as thumbnail of existing cars comments, if they are not anymore of the same episode...
"1" is maybe easier actually.

as already stated on the CHiPs page ...suggestion 1 sounds best.
...Number three is a NO-GO ..as I no longer have All the smaller pics from earlier episodes (..been deleted to make space on my PC.!)

You can resave them from imageshack
Well, anyway, it requires too much work and does not fit very well to this series. It may be a solution for "Code Quantum" where each episode is set in a different year, but since there are so few cars in that series...
I'll modify the site to use the solution 1 today

I made the change. I applied it to Chips and to New Avengers as they were the only movie pages with more than 200 vehicles:

I think it works very well! Well done Antoine! A good solution.
One remark though, although the site loads faster then before. There are still may images on 1 page. This could lead to slow loading (not with my internet connection) but maybe elsewhere...

Yes it may be slow, but splitting movie on multiple pages is not a good solution I think Well, I could add an option for that.
I was also thinking to an option to view vehicles as a list rather than thumbnail.
so people with slower connection could hide the thumbnails, or split them on pages.

The list view option seems like a good idea to me too. Indeed better than a page split...
