European Cars
Published 08/06/2008 @ 07:49:56, By taxiguy
Recently I've been getting more and more interested in European cars (mainly due to this site). So, I decided to do a little research on the web and visit some European car sites. Among those I went to Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, Fiat, Volkswagen, and Ford (UK). I didn't visit Volvo becuase almost all of their cars sold in Europe are sold here too, and besides I strongly dislike almost all of their new models.
Anyway, I really wasn't impressed with many of the cars I found, as the strange styling of some of them (paticularly Citroen) was quite off-putting to me. However there were a few that I liked, and some of which that I simply loved.

Among which was the Peugeot 607
I was previously not aware of this car, but it is now definietly one of my all-time favorites, right up there with the Chevy Caprice and Ford Crown Vicitoria.
It so beautiful from every angle, I just love it so much! The taillights are delightfully agressive, they remind me of the 1995-97 Crown Victoria taillights. And the front is nice too, it's just a great car all around

And when I found out it was also used as a taxi that was jsut too much for me :bave:

http://www.autobild.de/ir_img/178430_171907ed06.jpg

I even thought about changing my avatar to this, but then I decided it would look too much like antp's due to the fact that it is the same color, angle, brand, and style his is

Some other cars I found that I liked:

-Volkswagen Fox
-Volkswagen Polo
-Renault Clio
-Ford Fiesta
-Fiat 500
-Citroen C6

Also does anyone know if there exists a diecast model of a Peugeot 607? And if anyone has (or can find) any pictures of Peugeot 607 taxis I'd love to see them (I could only find that one).

Great topic, and it shows how civil we all are and that true interest in cars means being involved in many things beyond your zone of security. I sometimes need to be reminded of this concept. Thank you!

Glad to hear that you are getting interested in them  anyway with European cars the same size of the 607 or even a smaller you wont ever get surprised, you know that here in Europe almost every four door sedan can be a Taxi

@taxiguy: not a nitpicking, but both VW Fox (the old one from the 80ies and the actual one) are not European. Developed and produced in Brazil by VW do Brazil.
The Audi Fox from the 70ies, this was a German Audi 80.

By the way: when I see a yellow VW Fox, I'm getting immediately hungry (a Pavlov's reflex). Our local pizzaman has two new yellow Fox as delivery cars. So my brain got the "internal clic": Pizza! Lasagna!

Which ebay site? I checked US, UK, and AU but none produced any results. Could you provide a link please?
Also, they sell the 607 in Australia right? Do you ever see them around, or are they rare?

Interesting. Now that I think about it, the Fox does look a lot like one of those South American econboxes that they sell tons of.
Did you know that they also used the Fox name on a VW sold here from the mid 80s until 1993. I have to say I was quite fond of that version of the Fox too  They even had a two door station wagon version, which is the only 2-door wagon ever sold here in modern times (1980+).

It exists, made by Norev at 1/43th.
It must be easy to find, and quite cheap, as it seems that Peugeot sold stocks of the 607 scale model at a time. I found one for 3 € (normal price was 20 €, but it should be easy to find one cheaper)

Be careful, as there was also another one, also by Norev, but originally for a cheaper series (10 €), so with much less details/trim:

Nice antp!
Do you know of any websites where it is sold? (Preferably at a reasonable price of course, I do not want to pay more than $15)

Ah ha! I have found one for a good price: http://cgi.ebay.ca/NOREV-PEUGEOT-607-2000_W0QQitemZ360059562032QQihZ023QQcategoryZ50244QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZ- ViewItem

However, is it the cheaper one or the nicer one antp?
I cannot tell...

You will have to search on Ebay to find it at a good price, I think.

Currently there are not many for sale :ohwell: Few of the dark red one, and also another with "less details" in blue:

(not buy that one then)
With postage costs it may be expensive. Especially with low US$ : 15 $ makes only 10 €... and sending a model car in small package from Belgium to US will cost between 9 and 15 €.
If I find one again at 3 € or so, I can buy it and send it to you  Maybe I'll go next week where I found mine, so if I find another one I'll get it.

Unfortunately it is the cheap one.

It is easy: the cheap burgundy one has no black plastic base, just a small carton box like on the pic. The cheap blue one has a small plastic base.
The good one (exists in same blue as cheap one, and various other colors probably), has a big plastic base with a mirror in a corner.

Thank you! I would appriciate that if it's not too much trouble. 3 euros is quite cheap indeed (5 dollars or so?).

No much trouble, no  I would just take few minutes in a morning to go to the post office (which is at 100m from my home).
And for the price, as I said what is expensive is the sending, not the car itself
15$ would roughly cover car+postage (I recover 30% of the sending price if I include that in money spend for the site, as that money would not be taxed, unlike "profit" made from Google Ads)

I remember seeing a 607 in Cuba, it had red government license plates. They are very nice cars, and I wish we had some more European cars in North America.

Exactly, there are cars, that are supposed to be common but really arent, and you dont see many of them on the road, this may change for big cities like in my case Madrid or Barcelona, but for smaller ones there are cars that are hard to see round there...

I do not see many 607 either. In France they are maybe a little more common, but it is not a model which sold so well anyway.

Trouble is, in Europe and elsewhere Mercedes-Benz and BMW have cornered the market for cars in this class. Peugeot's 604, 605 and 607 are or were all perfectly good cars but most customers wouldn't look at them. Citroën, Ford and GM – and to some extent Volvo – have all suffered similarly.

What is sad for Citroën is that with the DS (and the CX I guess) they had a good place on that market. But as the XM had some reliability problems due to savings made by PSA on some electrical components, it did not had the career that it deserved (at the beginning, the sales of that model were very good, even in Germany) and now they do not have a better status as Peugeot/Renault.
