In the video, there are two Democratic Republic of Congo plates (dark blue with yellow text) amongst the collection of plates on the factory wall - I wonder if they were made in Belgium. This type of Congo plate has just been replaced with new German-style plates in FE-Schrift, so perhaps the Utsch salesmen have been to Kinshasa too.

Sure, a plenty of African countries are having Utsch-made-plates. Same goes for South-East-Europe, the Near and Middle East, even Australia.

The official list of forbidden combinations. A lot of swear words in French or Dutch, the usual body parts, political parties, and other stuff that could be embarrassing... Although for some you need a lot of imagination.

on that photo challenge site, there were previously challenges for finding most new 000-aaa plates (and also the last ones of the remaining aaa-000 series), so now a challenge was created for these new plates too.

Not found by me but 004 went to VT4 (tv channel) and I think that's 005 in his hand. And according to another site 1-AAA-094 is on a white Peugeot and 1-AAA-386 a Range Rover.(No pics) Steal any of those if you want...

but why didn't he get a long plate instead of that narrow-high plate?

When we first had plates with '0' as a year marker they forgot to block PO as an area marker. After a few days they realised their mistake but some cars had already been registered like that. I used to see this Ford Focus registered PO02___.

Could be worse. It's hardly a foolproof system... You could still be unlucky. FUC I saw recently (now on the list I see). In Holland they don't use vowels for that reason, strictly consonants on their new plates.

Interesting discovery: as they produce regular-series plates in advance (and not when someone request one), now that they have several plate formats they had to find a solution. It seems that the "square" plate was produced for the 1-AY*-*** series. See this Skyline:

Normally they only reached the 1-AH*-*** series now.
My father also saw a van with a AY* plate (but only the front, we suppose that a the rear it has a square plate then).
And about the VW shown above, in addition of the long plate he could also ask for the small plate, which should fit in any US-plate size like old Belgian plates; see page 5 of this document: http://www.mobilit.fgov.be/data/div/ekpiepresf.pdf

Is there any chance to get a double-lined plate in annother size than that above? All the spotted ones (in my plate-collector-forum) have that size.

Everone is shaking the head about that stupidity. It seem to be similar as in Russia, where there is only one plate-size without any exception. The car-owner has to see, how and where he can mount it...

That 3rd size is motorcycle size... Yes, you need special permission to put it on a car. Obviously it's so small that no one will get permission.

The square plates are 34cm, since that's the width of the old plates, but as a square plate really too big... That's asking for trouble isn't it...
