I assumed this would be temporary but it’s been months now.
In January it was another cause (but similar problem), I moved to another (current) database server only on 31 January.
I hope they will fix that.
Else we will have either to find another hosting solution (suggestions are welcome), or find someone who can manage a dedicated server.
Lately it seems to fail each time when Sixcyl uses it...

Maybe, but it's just failed as I tried to impart a pearl of wisdom, and that's not the first time that's happened

Not yet completely blocked though
It happened to block in the morning, and some afternoons it was working fine. That's what puzzles me: it does not seem directly related to traffic. And anyway when there are "too many connections", it should only happen to some connections tentatives, not to all: when it is blocked, nobody has access, but some should at least have.

What I could do is try to switch back to the server that we were using just before the current one. It had problems too but maybe on that one it is solved. It does not cost much to give it a try.

How big is the site and how much traffic per month?

posted earlier:
Currently the site uses about 10 GB of disk space for pictures (current limit = 250 GB). Nothing special is needed, I think, just the usual Apache web server for url-rewrite, and PHP and GD module enabled for handling images resizing.
The database size is currently 200 MB (limit was 250 MB until December, then 1000 when I first moved the database, and with current server it should not be limited... and it should be working). It requires mysql 5 or higher.
Traffic is above 300 GB/month now (current limit = 2000 GB).
Hosting costs 10 € / month for the site itself + 10 € / month for the database (VAT excluded).

One thing I could take is a "kimsufi" server (still from OVS)
http://www.kimsufi.com/ks/
a friend could help me for setting up the dedicated server
and it costs about the same as current system
it is just annoying that I already paid for current one for 1 year
(well, half year for the database)

Is it because you have no solutions, that you're looking for a scapegoat? ... or just you want to be naughty

Sure. Always there must be one, who is it. Here it's you. Why not?

It seems I came on the site about the same time as sixcyl, I loaded a few pics to comments, then it got slower and has now just seized up again

right now I can't connect to the "manager" which allows me to restart MySQL so we have to wait

No I did not, I'll restart MySQL again
I'll try to move to the old server in the next days, but I think I'll have to move to a dedicated server to get rid of these problems.
