2010 Lahti Classic Motor Show
Published 28/05/2010 @ 12:33:49, By Raul1983
This was the second annual show held for old vehicles in Lahti, Finland. Three exhibition halls dedicated for old vehicles and enthusiast clubs. Outside the exhibiton hall a free parking area for old cars and a show run of 1970's racing cars and bikes.
Lahti Classic Motor Show offers always something unusual to see. This event in my opinion is the best reason to visit Finland in summer.
Here are few pictures I took from the show before my battery went down.

Nice. Same Porsche of H. Toivonen from 1984 Costa Smeralda rally, we have listed on the site: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_76850-Porsche-953.html

I forgot to mention that it is a replica. But it's made so well that every single detail inside and out is 100% same as in Toivonen's rally car. There was also a 'Rothmans' VW LT van with British plates - I don't know was it real or not.

How was the situation with spare-parts- and literature-dealers?

Not much literature or spare parts available in this show. Some old/new memorabilia items like signs, license plates and tin model cars - the usual stuff. Some vintage clothes and furniture too. Also new car books and magazines sold by Alfamer company (the only store in Finland dedicated to car books).

So Ingo next May you're going to visit this show right ?

Hmmm, if there would be a chance for me to find interesting stuff, and if there would be cheaps flights available, I would think about that.
Finland is a country, I haven't visited until now.
@to our Spanish members: is it worth to go there?

Maybe a reason for annother short-trip...
I think, this is the show, where Eduardo, a young K 70-owner from Gran Canaria had been once. He wrote to me later, that it was an extreme shock for him - at was 1 degree plus then, and he never had experienced such cold temperatures before. He hadn't left the Islas Canarias before.
A friend of mine, a hardcore-Audi 50-freak, had been many times to Italian markets. The Audi 50/Polo was quite popular there, so in the past he could find some special "made for Italy"-stuff, but it was going less in the last years. He told me, even years ago, that for me I wouldn't be senseful for me to come with him, too. If there would have been any K 70-stuff, he would have told it to me.
No kidding, but classic car-shows and spare parts-markets are indeed the main reason for me, why I own a mobile-phone. I'm looking not only for stuff for me, also for friends (like the Audi 50-guy).It often had happend, that I've rummaged spare-parts-boxes or literature-offers with my mobile-phone in the hand.
A propos, in two weeks I'll go there again (except 2005 I've been there every year since 1991): http://oldtimermarkt-bockhorn.com/index.php?id=14
It's the market with the nicest atmosphere.
If I shall look around for anything, anyone around here is interested, just let me know. Nice alternation to look for other things than K 70-stuff or old German license-plates. It was getting harder and harder to find every year stuff, which is new for me. It's much fun to check and rummage these markets.

That Wihuri bodied Duett is extremely rare, only 25 were made, this could be the only one left, at least only one sitting on its own wheels.

What about Air Berlin (http://www.airberlin.com/)? I think their prices are quite cheap for the service you get.

Sure, Air Berlin is mainly quite cheap, and for me it's good, that I can take it from Düsseldorf and Münster (from Dortmund are no flights to Helsinki, as I see).
Maybe Ryanair offers flights to Finland (Lappeenranta and Tampere) from here, so Weeze (a bit cheating by Ryanair, it's quite far away from the announced Düsseldorf), but their page is shitty, it doesn't really work.
Is the show in Lahti the biggest in Finland? Or other worth to visit?
My wife had recently the idea to make winter-vacations in Finland, a trip on the "Sampo", visiting the ice-hotel and making a snowmobile-tour, but it's incredible expensive (2000 € per person for one week, 2500 € for 10 days), so she forgot it.
