I'm getting lots of 503s as well now. Not a big problem as refreshing clears them, but slows it down and makes me say sweary words.

Another little niggle recently - when I post an entry and try to put the white box onto the main pic, it doesn't show up on the edit page as inserted, so I can't tell if it's dropped successfully. But then going to the full page to check, the box cheerfully shows up as present and correct.

I'm restarting the server, maybe there is some issue that will be cleared with that.
Otherwise I'll have to investigate further, but I really have no idea from where that issue is coming.

About the box on the picture, that is very weird: sounds more like a browser issue (possibly related to the 503-error, if the browser can load something), as nothing changed in that since some time.

The 503 errors may simple be related to too much load on the web server, but I wonder why it happens now, and not before when it was simply slowing down.
I enabled the bot filter thing, it seems to work better for now (there were a lot of bots on the site).

2.10 AM, Central European Time : many Error 503 messages, a few Error 403, and disappearing thumbnail pictures. Reloading the page makes everything OK, until the next click.

I am also in countering these errors. More so frequently this evening then as of late.

Did one of you try to click on the link to block bots?
edit: from the log, I see that I see someone did a few hours earlier, but so none of you did when you encounter issues... why not using it, if the problem is preventing from using the site correctly?

I found an option to enable in the web server for "high trafic sites", that may help in some cases, we'll see if it improves (not a magical thing, but many small improvements together can help).
This morning I see that Bytespider is a very active bot. They "attack" the site from multiple IPs (to improve their performance, to the detriment of the sites), and it is handled very stupidly since the different IPs sometimes retrieve the same thing

edit: that bot is especially stupid, I caught it looping through the makes page because it can't properly handle the "/" in some make names - there is a bug in their code, it works fine in all browsers.
I had to add a special rule to block the invalid URLs it was trying to request. Maybe I should just block that bot

Though that others are not much better, e.g. this URL that OpenAI (ChatGPT) tried to request:

Are they all flawed? What a waste of internet bandwidth if it happens everywhere...

I added a rule to block pages when a "/" is incorrectly used (which seems often the case with the bots).
It should not have an impact for normal use, but please report me the address that you tried to access if you get a blank page with just an error "Invalid URI" (and from which page you were browsing, which gave you such link).

Well if after a few minutes it continues to be not really useable you can click on it.
Worse case if it was just for you that the problem occurred, bots are out for 2h, not a big deal

This probably was submitted yesterday before your last post.

It displays for me, did you do something to fix it? (e.g. submitting the picture again, as it can happen if one closes the page just after submitting the picture, in such case the thumbnail may not be generated as it is generated while loading/displaying the confirmation that the image was set)
Or was it a temporary issue?
Is this a recent screen capture or a problem from yesterday?
Do you still encounter errors 503 or missing pictures in general after the few fixes I mentioned today here above?

Yes, I resubmitted the pic and it cleared up. Same thing with the other occurence.

I only hit one 503 so far today and that was when I hit the bookmark for the site. None so far while validating. (knock wood)!

So far today I have not had any issues today either!
